Just checking the layout... the same new terrible UI. Goodbye for now.
They sent out an email for the Walking Dead games being removed. That has been a much requested feature. Not really part of the website, but still a much requested feature. If that's a new standard than I would gladly take proper communications from GoG about important news in a timely fashion over a bad layout.

I used to like visit GOG. But this design just hurts me.
I miss the ability to filter by release date for the game. Now they allow a sort by release date but it doesn't work. Oldest first still has plenty of 201? games at the top of the list. Maybe this change happened a while ago since I haven't purchased a game in 3 months.

The wish for GoG to become a popular mainstream gaming outlet has come true and some of it's hardcore fans can't accept that what used to be a Ma and Pa store is now catering for a wider audience.

The layout no longer caters for one big classic release or big publisher release. It's now designed for multiple releases that need to share screen space. These multiple releases may be different genres that are jarring to place together but that's the reality.

Compared to the bargain bin nightmare of steam and humble bundles totally sterile layout, GoG still has quite a clean UI that does not make me sick to navigate.

I'm not here to attack anyone's opinion though. Everyone's suggestions should be welcome and will help to shape the website.

Well, yes, the "mainstream" is one huge problem.

But do tell how does burying news at the bottom and only showing a few at a time get justified as a design choice made for multiple releases at once? How does replacing lists with large tiles, which take up more space, work with that? How does removing titles from catalog work with that, not even letting people search on a page and making some titles where there are multiple editions and/or DLC get completely confused with one another due to small or even no differences in covers? Or what about removing specific OS filters (as in the versions), not letting people check what works on theirs? Or what about video autoplays, which besides just bothering plenty are a real problem for those on metered or just very slow connections? Those who want videos can click if that's required, those who have a problem if it does even load, not to mention play, can't stop it from doing so if it's automatic, AND they even need to hover to even see the title!

As for wider audience in general, how does blocking those using certain browsers, albeit the "less popular" ones (read not Chrome), from even seeing the new site, as badly designed as it is, work in favor of that?

New sale is just like the halloween sale, GOG refuses to listen to anyone... and they even have the balls to add that "This place was made for gamers" tagline on the main page now.

Don't blow smoke up our asses GOG, if this place was actually about gamers you wouldn't have turned down Cave's games... or done many of the recent boneheaded things you have.

It just took me 30 odd mins to collect 5 free games (old classics that might be interesting, and actual full games, not DLC/sound tracks or demos).

After that i just had no paitence left to actually look to see if there was something i might want to spend money on.

This is ridiculous. My time is precious, and if you want me to spend money, don't waste my time. Give me the tools to filter out the noise so i can get right to what i might want to buy.

Not only don't I like it, it wont even work correctly, the drag down menus wont, so I cant go to my wallet. hmmm So I cant buy games... seems like good work to me.

So, GOG are still ignoring the concerns of PC users and ploughing on with this, are they? Their way of saying: "Thanks for making us what we are, now f*** off!" then putting their fingers in their ears and saying "Lalalalalala" when it comes to problems.

Well, here's one other concern: A new user (as well as the previously loyal regulars) might not want to buy a game from a broken site. I mean, if the site has problems then it only stands to reason that the payment system it has can't be trusted either. And could such a site even be trusted with your personal details?

But hey, you keep plugging away at this, GOG. I'm sure those finger-bashing users you're now focused on will stock up massive libraries of games for you*

*They won't. Only PC users do that, because they're more interested in, and have a better knowledge of, games.

At this point I don't browse the store at all, even for a sale. I just glanced at my wishlist, didn't bother with anything else. GOG has screwed up so much recently, I'm disinclined to buy here at all, not mention putting up with the chore that using the store has become.

So yeah - great job GOG. By all means, continue to alienate you customers.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I'm avoiding that abortion of a front page as much as I can, so I probably wouldn't have noticed.

That tagline is so self-congratulatory... in German there is this word called "fremdschämen" - feeling embarassed/ashamed on other people's behalf. That pretty much describes the tagline.

Bonus points for bringing up their "curation" - even though their "curation" is pretty much a joke at this point.

At least design-wise the tagline isn't an entirely bad thing. I like the subte "Explore Galaxy" button. Also the fact that the tagline brings WORDS back to the front page is very much welcome. I'm sure the temptation to put another huge tile all across the main page was there!

That's been the general idea for several years, at least from those calling the shots. Can have some lower down the pecking order still trying, though even that's unsurprisingly dropping, but at the top? Heh...

Making things so much worse first that even something like this can be seen as a positive... Have to hand it to them, they played it well.
