Starmaker: Have you read Dracula? The whole plot is Dracula being a vampire and affecting the lives of random people in very specific vampiric ways, using his abilities and minding his weaknesses. The book is not about Jonathan Harker hunting a monster, it's about Dracula going about his daily unlife.
I didn't read the book, I listened to the tapes and transcribed them. I remember the content pretty well, even though I didn't reach the very end of the book. To your points, yes and no. The book is a mystery novel with the protagonist appearing in an
unusual place and trying to uncover
the hidden power that seems to be behind the unnatural occurrences. This power is
the vampire, not
a vampire. The book is very atmospheric and has elements of self-observation and psychological analysis. The Veil of Darkness is very similar in these regards: the hero appears in a weird place with really dark atmosphere where strange things occur. Then he gathers bits of information and finally deals with the vampire.
Starmaker: It is important to the story that Dracula cannot cross water, can turn into a wolf, and must feed on blood.
I think you are missing the point of the story, sorry. Apart from the last point, these are very minor details.
