KasperHviid: Not quite serious, but:

Bloodnet
The Adventure of Shuggy

I'm a bit on the fence with Vampire Bloodlines ... is it worth a buy with the current discount?
yes
Serious question, are there any silly vampire games?

15 minutes of Vampyr: First Gameplay Trailer
You should definitely check out the Blood Omen/Soul Reaver saga, even though the first game isn't available on any digital distribution service (GOG included).

Get it on disk from eBay anyway.

The Veil of Darkness is good.
My first impression was "Well, I'm definitely playing Easy", no motivation to bother with grinding these days. Hopefully it at least has a decent plot and good twists along the way, some non-combat oriented gameplay too other than choosing dialogue options.
A good place to look for vampire games would be here:

igrok: The Veil of Darkness is good.
It's not really a vampire game, though; it's an adventure game where the big bad happens to be a vampire, something that's relevant for all of 1 scene in the game.
You can play a female vampire in "Sacred Gold".

That's like saying Bram Stoker's Dracula is not a book about vampires. While the game features several other supernatural elements, the setting and the main plot line are still about vampires.
You can get infected with Vampirism in Daggerfall (and I'm guessing some of the other Elder Scrolls games) and just keep playing without getting a cure :)

It's an adventure game which TC doesn't like, but I enjoyed A Vampyre Story. Too bad it's incomplete as the sequel was never made.

Have you read Dracula? The whole plot is Dracula being a vampire and affecting the lives of random people in very specific vampiric ways, using his abilities and minding his weaknesses. The book is not about Jonathan Harker hunting a monster, it's about Dracula going about his daily unlife. It is important to the story that Dracula cannot cross water, can turn into a wolf, and must feed on blood.

On the other hand, the villain of Veil of Darkness could be literally anything, and the plot won't change a bit (except the garlic maze, and good riddance), because the whole time you're a normal human messing around with quirky villagers and trying to find a use for smoking pipes and violins. Kairn could be Krill or Uukrul or Balthus fucking Dire for all the difference it makes.

I didn't read the book, I listened to the tapes and transcribed them. I remember the content pretty well, even though I didn't reach the very end of the book. To your points, yes and no. The book is a mystery novel with the protagonist appearing in an unusual place and trying to uncover the hidden power that seems to be behind the unnatural occurrences. This power is the vampire, not a vampire. The book is very atmospheric and has elements of self-observation and psychological analysis. The Veil of Darkness is very similar in these regards: the hero appears in a weird place with really dark atmosphere where strange things occur. Then he gathers bits of information and finally deals with the vampire.

I think you are missing the point of the story, sorry. Apart from the last point, these are very minor details.
