Just wondering if there's any semi-recent WRPG, say from the past decade or so, that meets some criteria. I know such WRPGs exist, but they're all older ones, and I am wondering if there are any more recent ones.

Requirements are as follows:
* The game must be recognizably a WRPG.
* The game must be turn-based.
* Skill points (or equivalent mechanics), if present, must not be the primary means of learning and improving your skills. (Something like Wasteland 1 would be acceptable here since you don't need that many skill points to learn skills and don't need them to improve them, but I want to avoid games where you have to carefully manage them.)

So, any such games out there?

(Examples of old games that would qualify: Ultima 6 (with 1-5 being pretty close, but technically failing the turn-based criterion), Wizardry 1-3 and 5 (4 isn't strictly turn-based, 6-7 have skills that can only be improved via skill points (like spellbook skills), and 8 isn't strictly turn-based and you can't boost attributes without something like skill points), Might and Magic 1-5 (6+ have skill points and aren't strictly turn-based), Wasteland (but not Dragon Wars).)
No, not that i can think of no, it would be interesting to see what others might come up with so i'll leave a message just to let anyone know that i'm following
I don't quite understand your skillpoint criteria, but anyway, would these qualify?

Old Planescape Torment
New Wasteland 3.

Planescape: Torment: Not turn-based, so no. (Also, I'm looking for something newer.)
Wasteland 3: From what I understand, you need skill points to increase your skills, so no. (Note that this was not the case with Wasteland 1.) (On the other hand, apparently new recruits start at your level, so that can serve the role of a respec, but I'd still rather not have skill points be the sole way to boost skills.)

In any case, with skill points, I am looking for a WRPG that either:
* does not have skill points at all, or
* if it has skill points, they aren't the only way to boost skills, and aren't even the primary method. (Wizardry 8 is like this for skills, but not stats. It occurs to me that Wasteland 1 is like this, though it doesn't feel like I have to be as careful with stats in that game.)
Well Wildermyth might come close to your requirements.

It is turn based
skills are important but there is a lot more to the story then equipping the right skills, your choices matter a lot too

The whole design is aimed at providing multiple arcs who's legacy heroes you choose on the endings, i belief with enough legacy heroes a new part of the story unlocks which you then can play with those, i even belief their story's will be matched up for a bit

furthermore the relations between characters play an important part, the game also has a neat feature where some of your heroes can get intimate raise children who then can become part of your party

i have yet to look at the game again since it is still in early access and i picked the game up on the start.

I can't call the game a definitive wrpg either though the style is without doubt western.

Skills are important of course but i don't belief you have a stat and a skill increase numbers, only skills and some other choices you may or may not get yourself into along the way

so yea.. Wildermyth then
