Not DOS game, but ones which run on Windows only.

I'm using Windows 7.

I found an old demo version of Lords of the Realms 2 that I'd like to try. Problem is, dialogue boxes disappear way too fast before I can even begin to read them.

I googled, but anything I found is from early 2000s. Like so:

These are made for Windows 95/98 mostly. The VOGONS thread
http://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=44
says they probably won't work on Windows XP. Let alone 7.

At best, these don't work. At worst they don't slow the game down but cause a lag; dialogue boxes still disappear after a sec.

Use turbo button. ;)
Cpukiller3 works on Windows 7: http://www.cpukiller.com/

I have no idea if it fixes the dialog boxes, but it's worth a try. Good luck! ^:)

Tried it. It causes a log but doesn't fix it.
Found this thing http://mion.faireal.net/BES/ but I have no idea if it works.

Or you could install Windows 98 inside a PC emulator such as PCem and run the game that way, if nothing else works.
Install Windows Update.

Why don't you just simply buy and install Lords of the Realms 2 from GOG. It works perfectly on Windows 7-10

Could be Op is play testing before buying......people used to do that a lot way back when with this thing we used to have called demos and shareware. ;)

I get that for $60 game, but LotR was about $2 many times over. Which is a decent price even if you don't like it.

Could be force of habit/their preference, though, or they missed the sale.

Some(like me) can also be tight with their budget and every dollar counts....etc.

It's a demo version not available on GOG.

It consists of a 2-player map, with a slightly different interface and some limitations (you can use only 3 types of weapons; no castles... etc). The map is not available in full version; there is no eay way to move it, and even if you could it would play as a different game (with castles, siege engines, all weapons) than the demo.

I *have* the GOG full version. Finished it. But the demo is a separate game that I never beat when I was a kid. Came across it today and want to give it a try so I finally win that map.

I see you are also a man of fine taste who likes to play differing versions of games with alternate content
