hey music lovers... gotta question for you :)
Are there any (digitally sold) games with ambient in-game music only?
I know many games have a track or two of very chilled vibe.
But I'm interested in games (or just a game) that you can just tune in, and there are very little in the way of beats... or not more than about 70 bpm.
Ascendancy comes to mind, but it's not sold anywhere for pc as far as I know (or maybe in amazon, but not digitally)

Currently trying out Homeworld soundtrack - but it's a bit too effecty - and ... I dunno...just not my kind of 'music'.
I mean more like (non-trance) Solar Fields, ott, early aphex twin, fila brazilia, carbon based lifeforms... can't find much of that in games.

Check this out. The best game soundtrack ever in my opinion:

Awesome! That's exactly what I meant... listening to it now.
Thank you!
I was kind of hoping to get to play the games too, so that's why I said digitally sold games... Not sure I can get to Super Metroid legally :)

70BPM is reeeeaaaalllllyyyy slow. From the bands you cited, they have a big variation between albums, maybe it's better to pinpoint by sub-genres.

As "chillout" can be varied from this:

to this:

Anyway, if you have time, you should definitely check out the bandcamp "video game music" section as there's plenty of stuff to explore and it could be easier for you to get the sound (and the game thus) you're looking for:

Skyrim has an incredible soundtrack. From full orchestral to slow ambient.

Yeah, I'm quite picky today :) Slow is what I like. But that '70 bpm' was more of a vague suggestion...
Thanks, Pixeljunk Eden has a good vibe to it, quite relaxing :) Night Sky 2 has quality music, too.
Might get the first game and try it.

Sure, "chillout" varies a lot. People might have quite different examples from mine :)
Sub-genres... argh... 'relaxing' ? :P 'floaty space chillout' ? 'minimalist melodic masquerading' ?

Oooh... Didn't know bandcamp had that section. Thank you very much! - there are quite a lot of games... Maybe some gog games too... *goes to do some major digging in bandcamp*

I don't have an amazing grasp on which genres are which, but the first thing that came to mind was Dreaming Sarah's soundtrack:

Osmos.

Not sure if you're looking for original music, I think it only uses licensed tracks.
so... after rummaging the bandcamp treasure trove... I've discovered one interesting game:
https://jackmenhorn.bandcamp.com/album/nova-111
it's sold on steam at the moment... a strange turn-based action game with quite a pleasant chilly electric soundtrack :)

thank you all - amok, park_84, 227, darthspudius, TARFU and catpower1980 !!
for helping me on my path to chill-out! :)
Also found this game Blues and Bullets on Steam. Although some of the soundtrack might be action-hectic...
Anyhow... maybe during summer sale I can get a good selection of chillout gaming :)

I don't know if it's your cup of tea but I really like listening to the Homm town themes as chillout music.

I also LOVE Bound by Flame's soundtrack. It's pretty much the best part of the game.

Wasn't the whole soundtrack of Endorfun supposed to make you feel good?
That's what I seem to remember anyway.
