Bummer - I always meant to try Guild Wars, but never did - I liked their model for the MMO - seemed far more consumer / gamer friendly and my understanding is they did a very good job of supporting it.


I feel like the "original" MMO is probably dead and the more traditional but free to play ones probably aren't too far behind.

The arena type and mobile sort are where it's at - smaller more digestable playsessions fit the modern audience better.

gw1's the best mmo of all time though. buy once play without fees always and forever - even before all the others were like that.

Except GW1 is not and never was an MMO in any way whatsoever. All the areas in GW were Instanced. It's no more a MMO than Diablo is an MMO, which is to say, not at all.

I love GW1. I started playing it last year and there is still a dedicated community. A couple of the developers actually released some updates recently to the graphics and storage system.
