Some news from developer's discord - it seems that Countryball Heroes has problems with Steam release as well - sounds familiar, isnt it? Anyway, reading most recent reply from developer on discord chat, he confirmed that game was rejected by GOG due to, quoting, "too much China-related humor".

Of course this "China-related" humor is" nothing special in the game, since every "countryball faction" is making jokes out of some stereotypes, etc, so "China humor" is the same category as "other country humor".

But I guess it doesn't matter anymore.
How much of GOG's revenue comes from China?
Of course. DRM? Step right in! Making fun of a China in a game thatm akes fun of all countries? GTFO.

I do hope for an Itch.io release, or an option to buy the game DRM-free straight from the devs.

DoomSooth: How much of GOG's revenue comes from China?
Iirc, GOG's info graphics showed they make around 5% from Asia....so less than that.
Feels a bit weird when your own country just gets good old-fashioned geoblocking ngl.

I think the better question is...

... how much investment and capitalization in GOG / CDPR is Chinese?

Again, no issue with the Chinese people, but this kind of "gentle" censorship seems indicative of business with authoritarian regimes -- always with strings attached.

Sure wish we'd get good news on GOG! ugh

MadalinStroe: What I was saying is that the game is thematically a troll game
Why? Because it offends SJWs? That doesn't make it a "troll game." Lots of people don't agree with SJW ideologies.
I don't like when a game is solely rejected for political reasons to everyone on the planet.

I get it, the Chinese gov't (The CCP) hates when somebody makes a joke and it has zero sense of humour. Why should the entire world be censored and punished? I am not a Chinese citizen, why should I be affected by this? This game is making fun of every country, including mine (I OK it, I understand the context), there is no special treatment. Why does GOG performs a function of the CCP and why should the CCP's Censorship affect Poland and the world, making everyone to have less fun and less games to buy on a platform of one's liking?

What's next, will Russia's gov't get "offended" on making fun of Putin or forcing to remove "Psychonauts 2" globally for everyone on the planet just for having a gay couple in the game? Reminding: Russia has a law prohibiting anything non-negative about LGBTQIA+, if it finds "Psychonauts 2" has it, the game might be instabanned. What about other countries, what if one of those doesn't like to have superpowers in games, thinking that superpowers are only for gods, not players? What then, reject all games with superpowers? This is absurd. The CCP shouldn't decide what Poland or the world can or cannot play, this must be only inside China.

The right way is to block it for China if the CCP is so badly sensitive yet allow it for everyone else. I don't want to have the CCP's Censorship put on me.

Some news from developer's discord - game will be released on Steam (review took a looong time, but it's over), but it won't be available in China to buy. I guess we all know the reasons.

And sadly (at least for me), this means that there won't be released DRM-free release anywhere else. I've asked about this developer, but I heard in return, that this depends on the publisher and that publisher is usually not too keen on putting money for "additional release/version".
