DoctorGOGgles: While you're negotiating with Carpe Fulgur, could you please ask them, why Recettear and Chantelise on GOG don't have Japanese text, while you can easily switch to Japanese on Steam?
I've pestered GOG support about that multiple times in the past and they've tried to contact Carpe Fulgur about that and also failed, so maybe now's a good time to try again? You don't want Steam to offer a better version of the games than GOG, do you? ;)

elcook: Believe me we're on it for some time now. Hopefully we'll manage to get that done this time :)
Thank you! I really appreciate your effort!

Could you please ask Konala to create an official thread about the removal on the french subforum ? A lot of french members never visit the main forum and aren't informed about the removal.
I think set this thread STICKY make less people read it.
Thanks for the heads up GOG. You informed us a week in advance, and you were transparent with the reasons these games have to go. As far as I can tell your promises to try and rebuild your image towards your customer weren't just empty words.

I wouldn't miss most of these games, except for the pretty good Chantelise (and probably Recettear which I still have to play), but as tfishell already pointed out Carpe Fulgur just confirmed they'll stay. So I'll see if I want one of the rest but I'm okay with not seeing them around anymore.

The only thing I wish you'd do differently is to throw a goodbye promo. But if I understand the way digital distribution stores operate that's just not possible, because promos have to be agreed by the game's rights' owner... which are the guys you just can't reach after all.

elcook: But we won't forbid anyone to do so. We just don't want to actively ask you for that :)
Oh, yes - you're right. I completely understand you now. :)

Just a guess here but maybe they need permissions to do such promos and if they cannot reach the devs/publishers this might be problematic. I do remember several games that got their (extraordinary good) promo before they were removed.

elcook: Unfortunately, some partners are very hard to reach, even for us, and since we didn’t manage to get their consents to this assignment we’ll have to remove a few titles from the catalogue until further notice.
avatar
laser_eyes: You can't reach your partners? I assume you are still paying them if I buy their game?
Probably at the end of each month any payments are transferred (automatically or not) to a bank account.

That's exactly what I'm saying. If they could reach the devs to ask permission to put their game in a sale, they could reach them to arrange the permanence of the game as well.

Edit: I just saw that you already said exactly that in your last sentence. Sorry - I completely overlooked this.

Lemon_Curry: Thanks for the heads-up nearly a week in advance – it's much appreciated (though I still don't quite understand why you won't create official news posts about such important announcements).
Just an educated guess here: A person new to GOG visits the front page and the first thing he sees is that GOG has to remove several games because of legal issues. Maybe it's just not the best impression this person would have of GOG at this moment? However like I said that's nothing more than a theory of mine.
avatar
MarkoH01: How about "HELP us to reach those devs and ask them to contact GOG" - I don't see no pressure here. Also it is not that those devs/publishers were even trying to go away from GOG it's just happening because they could not be reached. Asking the devs if they did know that GOG have to remove their games and ask them to contact GOG if they don't even want that to happen is no pressure and no forcing at all. It all depends on how you ask.

:)
:D Would be great if we could send so many (different) messages to several devs here who don't update their game. Maybe this would help.

fronzelneekburm: Don't underestimate people's intelligence. In forums, I tend to be one of the more passionate participants (which is really just a nice way to say that I tend to use profanity a lot), but even I know that hurling obscenities at devs and publishers would be rather counterproductive. You have no idea how many times I've been itching to type the words "Hey cocksucker, where's my fucking update?" into that email header, but I didn't. I stay polite. I'm usually even complimenting the devs ("I really enjoyed your game, so I would really appreciate it if..."). If you want people to give you what you want (even if you feel entitled to it - and in the case of updates on gog, you ARE entitled to it, since you're a paying customer), you'll have to be polite. If you're rude, you're going to get ignored. It's common sense, really.
+1 - Hey, that's my tactic, too :)
Thanks for the warning! But once again why isn't this a news post or at least a blue thread so that I have to discover it by a link in another thread and very likely could have overlooked it?

As always it's sad to see games getting removed from GOG and I hope they come back soon. Most of them do not look very interesting for me though, so it's not a big loss for me. But I regret not to have bought Sokobond yet and at full price it's a bit too expensive for me, unfortunately...

Also, please GOG, implement a way to keep the game cards of removed games visible for the owners of the games! It cannot be that hard. You already have managed to hide changelogs...

Dev_A: "Hey Joe we got an email from GOG. They want us to assign the licence to some Polish company. If we don't do it our game will be removed from GOG."
Dev_B: "Will our game be removed immediately?"
Dev_A: "Well, they'll probably tell all their customers that the game will be removed in a week or so."
Dev_B: "I've got a great idea. Let's just ignore the email from GOG. There's bound to be a huge number of people that will buy the game before it's removed."
Dev_A: "You sneaky son of a gun!"

Yeah that might happen but don't forget to mention that the devs probably are gonna contact GOG just afterwards.
