I just discovered this mail from Ubisoft.

Apparently the first 4 Anno games, enhanced for 4k(youtube trailer).

Now call me crazy, but I don't remember Anno 1602 looking that bad, of course you should check the 4k trailer. Are they pulling another Heroes of Might and Magic 3?

Maybe they stretched the image out to fit on a modern screen?
personally i wouldn't bother to much with the series ;)
From what i read in a review is that they upped the resolution and added widescreen support.
Also you can scale the UI in the options multiplayer is now handled by UPlay.
And the games now run with 64bits and apparently 1404 profits from this as larger settlements
won't crash the game.

So i would say after the C&C Remaster this seems to be a quite solid release.

Of course it doesn't even look remotely that bad. I have the game installed and just looked at it again to make sure. If the screenshots wouldn't come out mostly black for some reason, I would have attached one.

The screenshots on Mobygames aren't right either. There are missing shadows and it looks weird in other ways.

Seems the closest I've seen, doing a quick search.

Quite probably. xD
Yeah, no. The original Anno 1602 was never blurry. that looks like a fake filter over the 'before' footage.
Seems like the video was taken down.

That is very likely. Many people with allergy to pixels seem to consider the horrible shit-smear filters as a good thing for some reason so I wouldn't be surprised.

That's strange it's still working for me.

That's what I though, but I have a lot of nostalgia for 1602, so I couldn't be sure.

Works now. When I posted, it kept saying "video unavailable" and 404 error.

Strange indeed.

And that definitely looks like a forced FXAA or texture filter. Looks terrible either way

i have the original lying around somewhere too ( steam collection ) might give it a go, in all earnest the graphics look quite charming though a bit the same as that pharoa builder...

more of a sf follower in that aspect... 2070 i played a lot, 2205 not so much, one is enough in your life! only 1404 btw which on behalf of the developer is removed from steam... would i need a new patch to let it work with the 64 bit enviroment oh wait no those remasters of course nvm

That explains why so many PC ports of PSP and PSX games come with those smoothening filters turned on as the default. Makes me always rub my eyes like I am still half asleep.
I'm still playing Anno 1602 (I've only reached mission 13), and there's nothing wrong with the way it looks.
