So while I was living in the wonderful magical wonderland of good oldies with the speedruns of AITD 1&2
http://www.gog.com/forum/general/alone_in_the_dark_done_in_10min

In a dark back alley, the executives of Atari were releasing in silence a new episode of Alone In The Dark and man, it's not surprising that no one talked about it yet....

So, the developer "Pure FPS" (argh, what a name...) apparently got heavily inspired by the RAID mode of Resident Evil Revelations 1&2 and made a full game out of it, so it's basically a kind of arena third-person shooter with some leveling, stats, etc.... While it's somehow fun and casual in the RE series, in this case it crosses all the checkmarks of the most bland, generic and boring TPS games ever. Slow, uninteresting, it's a snoozefest after 5 minute of gameplay....

Jim Sterling commentary (less talk so you can hear the sound design, or rather the lack of it.......)

Apart from the third person view, the feeling is not different than a random collage of Unity assets:

Hum oh yeah, the game is 32€ on steam, ahem....

I think I'll begin playing "Alone In The Dark: A New Nightmare" sooner than expected just to clean my soul from this horror :(
So they are necrophiliacs?

It's the only plausible explanation to their misdeeds ;)
Killing old franchises is a new trend lately..

(even if, in this case, the last good AitD was 3 lol)

Some thinks it already went downhill with episode 2 and the pirates theme. :)
The sad part is that Alone in the Dark (2008) actually had some good ideas and it was somewhat playable but the bugs/glitchs, the awfull story and voices and that driving just ruinned what could have been a good game, the crafting system was ahead of its time...

This Illumination was screaming garbage when they announced the Early Acess so i'm not surprised with the result.
Unfortunately, we will see these kind of games more often, because almost every huge publisher wants to make a similar game like call of duty and milk it until it dries off.

Its the Konami business model.

AOD was one of the few games I bought on launch day. A lot of brilliant ideas that weren't executed all that well. It basically solved the QTE problem by giving the player control that made sense in the context of the situation. Like using the left and right thumbsticks to wire a car and having to connect the the right wires in each hand.

But it was buggy, the story sucked, it was short and the physics engine was borked so bad that driving over a curb sent me into the stratosphere.
