I get from time to time by mail offers from gog with the text "All-time deepest discounts for game X" and a code to redeem. Every time the same thing, today I've had enough of this so the reason for this thread.

The last one I've got is for Expeditions series

the price of the offer is 11,99 euros

the offer contains Expeditions: Conquistador, Expeditions: Viking and Expeditions: Viking Deluxe Edition Upgrade

looking at isthereanydeal website I see that the all time deepest discount for each of these game is:

Expeditions: Conquistador 2,49 euro
Expeditions: Viking 4,49 euro
Expeditions: Viking Deluxe Edition Upgrade for 2,49 euro

for a total of 9,47 euros

the 11,99 euros is way above the "All-time deepest discounts" for these games.

really?

to be "All-time deepest discounts" the price should be one cent less that 9,47. Put this at 9,46 and we are ok.

Said this, I understand that they offer great games at affordable prices, that the developers and gog need to cover costs of running the business and also make some profit.

But, maybe do not call this "All-time deepest discounts" if is not "All-time deepest discounts"? What do you think?

There are also some laws about false advertising last time I've checked.
I agree. I have also noticed some sale prices recently that were listed as all-time lowest when I know from experience they were not.
This type of false advertising is annoying. Restaurants often do this, calling themselves or their product "World Famous", which is a lie.
GoG should have a database of price history readily available so they can avoid these untruths.

Example A. This game was a freebie at one time.

The world is going through inflation right now in many, if not all, countries as a consequence of the stimulus and money printing to "deal" with the hidden economic crisis we were approuching long before the pandemic happened.
Price updates will be a thing for many market products as a consequence of this consequence.

My theory is that these "All time deepest discounts" are for percentages "discount records", not actual real regional prices of said games, as they're constantly changing everywhere right now because of said inflation.
I've noticed that on the newsletter discount emails there is usually a small asterisk near to the "All-time deepest discounts" statement that leads to the small print which says that the all-time deepest discount is only applicable to games sold previously via GOG. They don't take into account any other store at any other time. So I guess they are telling the truth but in a slightly disingenuous way.

reseme: really?

I've seen many a time where they have 'hundreds of games up to 90% off' and you look and there's like 1 game of Deponia 1 that's 90% or something off costing 70 cents, and then everything else is closer to 10%-20%.

Don't expect anything from the ads.
GOG didn't pay attention to IsThereAnyDeal and had a slip of the tongue.
That's why I unsubscribed from the GoG newsletter. Mail from Steam is much more profound. There is a 'winged' Dutch saying, memorable phrase, (which may exist in other countries too) that states that exaggerating is not lying (you even need to 'say' this in a certain tone) and that clearly shows how times are changing! I mean, if companies nowadays in some countries need to clearly state that microwaves are solely meant for the heating of designated food products.....

Zimerius: That's why I unsubscribed from the GoG newsletter.
I unsubscribed when everything seems to be 'LIMITED one time use discount code!' which means very little and everyone including me had dumped said codes in the expiring codes thread and i doubt anyone used them.

It's literally useless. and the once in a while when they actually tell you there's a free game? You might get the email 2 days after the 24 hour giveaway is over...

Pajama: They don't take into account any other store at any other time.
the prices I've used are from the gog store prices, which we need to admit, are the best discounts for this game series.

but the "All-time deepest discounts" offer I've got by mail doesn't beat their previous price track.

Maybe call it "Great discount offer "and we are all fine with that.

I have an issue with the mail offers for this category that never offer (from what I've seen) the "All-time deepest discounts"

I don't want to be a fool and not recognize that gog discounts games and have a lots of offers all the time.

but can we just stop with the "All-time deepest discounts" lie? :D

Yep, many are not deepest discount ever.

I keep a record of the various prices of all games I am interested in, so I know that for a fact.

What has certainly happened at GOG in the last year or so, is that they have pushed the base price up for many games, that have been on sale in the past for say 75%, that are now dearer at 80%.

Technically you can say that 80% is a greater discount than 75%, but in reality with a base price change, it isn't.
Good news everyone!

For the first time got a "All-time deepest discount" for a game. It was for Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus! Got it for 8,09 euro where the minimum reported price for gog on istereanydeal is 8,79€

That is what I'm talking about. :)

I know the game had lower price on other platforms but if possible I prefer gog because I can downlod the game and archive it. if in a few years, gog and steam go bankrupt or start asking for fascist pass, facial recognition or mandatory internet ID and other crap like that, I can install the game from my archives and play it offline. Under a bridge. Locally.
