Hey Guys,

since this fabulous gem has just 21 votes on the wish list, which may be the result of not much commercial success, when it was released, I want to point out, that it was recently ported from a community project, which cared for it for ages (freeallegiance.org), to steam. The game was released in March 2000, so just that it was cared for by connoisseurs for such a long time, is a perfect indicator for it's quality. Myself am looking for it, recurringly trying to solve issues with Linux ever since.
Now there seems to be a new update and, as mentioned, a traverse to steam which may be a door opener to get this gem finally back in action.
Just wanted to inform you, because I hope to find people out there, with ringing bells right now. If so, please vote for it and let others know. Would be a great Christmas present.

Thank you all

Just looked at that page,
"Allegiance is an online team-based space combat sim"
The term online means there cannot be a single player offline drm free version of the product. Therefore can't be here (unless its called Gwent). Whilst online is not drm it is however far far worse than drm.

That's only true if it isn't required for the purpose of protecting digital rights, which may or may not be the case.
Does its multiplayer and shit rely on Steam, or does it do it all on its own, only using Steam as a delivery and update platform for the game? Does it include microtransactions?

Also, since it is apparently free-to-play... what benefit would it be to anyone to bring it to GOG? To me it sounds a bit like asking GOG to bring Team Fortress 2 to GOG. I mean, yeah... but no.

I was a beta tester for this game ages ago. Back in those days, they actually mailed you a CD to install the game and had you sign an NDA.

I never could get the game to load, unfortunately. So never played it. It still looks neat all these years later.

Yes, missed the word necessarily, e.g:
Whilst online is not necessarily drm it is however far far worse than drm.

I.e. it can be used that way, but doesn't necessarily mean it always is. Online however is still far worse the DRM. With DRM you have the product at your disposable, so can crack it. Online only means you may/may not have some/most of the product, however without internet or the dependent servers it is totally useless. You physically cannot use the product for anything without those servers over which you the user has no control whatsoever (unless of course you own the servers). This is why streaming is the way publishers want to go forward, the user has nothing or very little their end and the pubs control it totally. Not to mention the advertising, gambling etc. streams associated with online only.
And on top of whether it or isn't online / DRM'd, it appears to be made by Microsoft... so hell will likely freeze over before it comes here.

And frankly if Microsoft were coming there are many other games to be getting more excited over then this one.
