Dear GOG,

I will probably buy it soon-ish.

It it gets on gog by then, then, nice, I'd buy it on gog.

If it doesn't, then, I will end up buying it elsewhere and we will all be a little sad.

And, you know, I'm not the only one in this situation. There are literally DOZENS of people like that.

I hope you do measure the cosmic stakes of this (I don't, but I intent to buy Universe Sandbox 2 soon-ish in order to modelize it), and are already working on preventing this probable disaster.

You might want to convince the devs then. They seem to think Steam is the best option for them and somewhat reluctant to release a DRM-free version.
