I like that the goodies offered up the comics and the cards. The movie is a plus, though it was already included in one of the last goodies giveaway.

But I came across something which kind of ruins it for me.

It turns out that with the comics that you're given in this giveaway, you don't actually own it. That kind of goes against the spirit of GOG and that is a bummer.

You'll weep when you discover what those bonus playing cards are for. ;P

It was mentioned in the thread about the Witcher con, it’s not DRM so they are fine with it (like gwent, and cyberpunk extras and all the other stuff which isn’t drm, but is not consumer friendly).
what do you mean you dont own the comic? can you elaborate?

You get a code for the comic/guide on https://digital.darkhorse.com
You can read in in a browser window or install an app on your smartphone to download it, the website gives you no option for downloading and offline reading otherwise.

From their FAQ, https://digital.darkhorse.com/faq:
DO I OWN THE DIGITAL COMIC I PURCHASED?
You do not. As with Amazon, Nook, and other e-book companies, you don’t own the book you buy. You are licensing the right to read the book on supported and authorized devices.

WHERE CAN I READ MY DIGITAL COMICS?
Just about anywhere. Once your account has been created, you can access your purchases from any modern web browser, including mobile-device browsers, as well as from the Dark Horse Bookshelf app. While the web-based reader DOES work on cellular networks, it is quite bandwidth-intensive so we recommend using WiFi whenever possible.

If you have an iOS or Android device, please download the appropriate app. Once your books are downloaded in the Dark Horse Bookshelf app, you can take them with you anywhere and read offline.

You must create a Dark Horse account and download proprietary viewer (I believe) in order to view the materials.

They are not PDF or even open-comic files that you own and can open independently.

This issue killed my enthusiasm as well. Was interested in the books... not interested in the delivery.

Takes a bit of an effort but there's a way you can "download" both the comic book and the compendium for offline use.

I'll try to recreate and write up a quick and dirty step-by-step guide of how to do it, check back later, if you're interested.

As mentioned before, this takes quite a bit of your precious time and patience, if you're a lazy bum and value convenience above everything else, you might want to leave now.

Done in Firefox, but may be applicable to other browsers just as well.
Starting from the point where you've already set up the account on darkhorse.com and have redeemed the code (see attached picture below):

1. Open the comic book in a new tab (by either right-clicking on the cover art and selecting "open in new tab" from the context menu or holding down CTRL + left-clicking on the cover art)

2. In the newly opened tab, click on the big red "READ NOW", which should start the reader/viewer application

3. First thing you should see is the "Fox Children" cover art, or at least the upper title part of it, since here on my end it's by default zoomed in to fit the width of the screen.
If that's the case you might want to change that to fit it to the height of the screen instead, by moving the cursor to the top until the reader/viewer's menu/settings slide into view. On the right hand side of the menu you should see a couple of small icons ("i" for Help, "x" for closing the reader/viewer, etc) - click the second one from the left ("Fit Page to Height") to zoom out

4. Open another new blank tab

5. In the reader/viewer, left-click + hold anywhere on the artwork and start moving the cursor until the cursor itself changes to a translucent smaller version of the artwork

6. While still holding down, drag the translucent smaller version of the artwork over the previously opened new blank tab on the tab bar (you know you're in the right spot when it switches over from the reader/viewer) and drop it in there by letting go

7. If you've done it right you should now have another copy of the artwork visible in the tab. Right-click anywhere on the artwork to bring up the context menu, select "Save Image As" and navigate + save the JPG to a location of your choice.

8. Rinse and repeat with the remaining pages and the "The World of the Witcher" compendium once you're done with the comic book, respectively

Wow, good that I own those goodies already on GOG. Reading "Fox Children" right now with my Acrobat Reader. :-)
There`s a movie? Hm, have to look through the goodies now, I´m curious now.

What you mean we don’t use a store for convenience? Isn’t the whole point about gog that they make things work on modern systems so you don’t have to? Cmon, even the OST ardent fanboy can see the point going one here? Like anything else, they are not free at all.
Also was super disappointed to find out that for the comic/compendium...

1. I need to make an account for some site. I hate making account after account for every fucking site i come across.
2. DRM lol. Basically always Online, no option to just download it. I guess i’ll just find it somewhere.

E: btw i just used a disposable e-mail account. I absolutely despise adding more account shit to my e-mails, and yea i have a work e-mail and others e-mail, still hate it.

According to a quick research on the interwebs "Fox Children" never was available as part of the extras or via a reedemable code before? Only found mentions of "House of Glass" (and only the first chapter/volume at that), "Reasons of State" & "Killing Monsters"?

Same for the "The World of the Witcher" compendium. There's a compendium listed in the extras, but it's not that one.

Just don't see why, once in a while, you shouldn't get your hands dirty and look for the inconvenient solution to the problem yourself, was what I was trying to get at.
Verdammtes Englisch and its limitations for expressing oneself properly.

Well, it's meant to be DRM'd just because of the setup and the fact you're not getting the PDFs like you would in some other places.

Given a "workaround" was given, I guess it's still possible to get one. But it would take work. Ultimately, you have to do this for every page of the comics (over 300 pages combined) and compile each image/page somehow into a PDF for each of the books.

But by then you'd have read the books before you even get to finish making them. Kind of spoils all of it just to take the added effort, y'know.

Looool

Good thing I'm so fucking sick of Twitcher I didn't even bother to claim any of these "goodies". Frankly, the biggest goodie of all will be seeing Geralt gone from the top of the front page again.
