Didn't really expect to be posting anything here again but I thought some ears might appreciate it, and this developer made some nice games so it's kinda disheartening. I know that given time, they would have turned Goodhood into something great like they did with Renowned Explorers.

From the post, the developers seem to indicate that they tried their hand at the "games as service" model, and they got burned, when they could get a steady influx of players willing to support continued development. There are some successes like Slay the spire, They are billions and Darkest Dungeon, but all these games also had a solid foundation. It seems that Godhood, is too bare-bones to please even its current customers, let alone attract new ones.

Having said that, I'm sorry to see Abbey Games go. I really liked the artstyle in Renowned Explorers.

I'm amazed any indie developer outside the huge Shovel Knight style hits can keep going. The market is so insanely flooded.

No, I imagine they were just planning on doing something similar to Renowned explorers and those other mentioned games by adding paid content down the road. That's not GaaS.
This is reminding me of Arcen Games, which is basically Chris Park at this point. AI WAR and Reus are two of my favorites so maybe both Abbey and Arcen will be having a comeback.
