The main issue here is clicking the link not knowing that it leads to a page with an auto-play video.

The main issue is you're clicking a link. If auto-play videos are an issue, it's your problem, deal with it. Perhaps by not clicking on links to youtube?

That is assuming I know the link is to a youtube video in the first place.

dtgreene, when you hold your mouse curser over a link, the URL is shown in your browsers status bar. This is basic knowledge. You see a link, you mouse-over to check the URL.

If someone follow a link without bothering using ½ sec to check out the URL, they can't blame anyone but themselves.

I know (and I actually did so), but it still takes time to do that. Also, don't assume that every browser behaves that way. (In particular, consider browsers that use a touch screen interface, as well as browsers used by blind people.)

While your examples are a bit far-fetched, I think you're right somehow: Since we're gonna mouse-over the link to see the URL anyhow, it makes more sense to post the raw URL in the first place.
