ludology ? Why not just call it gameology or game science or VG(Video Game) science.

I am pretty sure some pseudo-science bullcrap will be inserted by people and then call it ludology.

For example- games make people more violent or games make people more sexist or insert Anita Sarkeesian's comments here

AlexY: I would have loved to, for example, delve into the way Silent Hill uses its mechanics to terrify the player, but there's no way that would work where I studied. If I'd been lucky and lived somewhere civilised, maybe, but I work with what I get.
That would have been great! Please return with a similar thread if you gain an opportunity to write something like that.

I've book marked your thesis, looking forward to reading it. I would have preferred a more focus on game mechanics, perhaps even from a meta perspective but this will do fine. :)

For anyone looking to book mark easily, I highly suggest something like Pocket. You need an account but it's so handy with no annoying pictures at the side and fully structured text.

Interesting. I think I perceive some gaps in awareness that contribute to a somewhat misleading narrative in this video. But for me it's certainly good to see some of the missing dots of what happened in academia between the 50s and the 00s. I think I'll watch this again and round up my judgement on the whole.

Thanks mate.

neurasthenya: I recommend you watch (actually, I recommend everyone to watch) this interesting take on the topic you've mentioned.

Errant Signal - The debate that never took place
Errant Signal can be good at times, I also enjoy smudboy's videos.

dtgreene: Well, there is this article, which analyzes gameplay from a mathematical standpoint:

I have absolutely no idea what this article is about, I was never good with numbers! :Đ

That's literally its name, just in Latin. There have been studies about the negative impacts of video games and besides the chance of prolonged physical inactivity, there's not a whole lot of scaremongering in (peer-reviewed) academic papers. I don't think you should worry about con artists in (niche) academia so much.

If I do get around to it, it won't be a scientific paper, I can assure you. But I would definitely love to write down some thoughts on certain games/series eventually...

Again, thanks everyone for the interest!

I remember reading that playing certain video games does lead to more violence, but it turned out not to be correlated to the violence in the game. Instead, it was correlated to the difficulty; people who played harder games (and hence were more likely to become frustrated) were more prone to become violent.

Also, I believe those who play video games growing up make better airplane pilots.
Just transfered all three parts + addendum to my Kobo - it says it's a 1 hour and 23 minutes read! :)

I think a small resume would be nice! I know it's about computer games, but that's a rather broad label.

Good observation, for some reason I completely forgot to include the summary in the opening post! I didn't even realise it, must be because I'm sick these days... Thanks!
