Kitfox games will soon start selling this game on both itch.io and steam.
It's a version with graphical tileset and new music.
However, Bay12Games will still be distributing the original game for free and continue working hard on its development (their estimation is that the game is yet only 44% done, and it's already one of the most complex games ever made)
Both versions will keep parity on updates, it seems.

I've read that some people think Stonesense will still be better than the Steam tileset. I guess we'll see know soon enough.

Probably. Stonesense's isometric view can reflect the three dimensional disposition of DF's world better than any regular top-view tileset.

DF alongside EVE Online is probably my favorite game I never played. Not my genre but I enjoy reading stories about it, complexity and attention to nuances is truly mindblowing.
It looks strange with actual graphics.
