A bunch of my older games were updated all of a sudden and at once without any changelogs.
The version names are also long strings of numbers.

I'm not worried or anything, just curious what's that about.

I was just to post something on the same lines.

I've got, mainly, all my installed games receiving an update.
Obviously without a line of changelog.

GOG is so depressing...
I got the same thing happening. It's probably because GOG is having server issues at the moment.

If you close down Galaxy and restart it then it redownloads files for all my installed games every time I restart Galaxy so I'm keeping it closed from now on until I see GOG say that they fixed the issues.
if there are many being updated, I would assume it has nothing to do with the actuall games, but rather the installers. for example changing the promotional images.

i haven't even thought about that... Thx
Maybe it's related to the ongoing problems with the servers.

I own some of these games (Deponia 2 and 3), they were not updated in my account. But I don't use Galaxy.

This quite a common thing for those of us who only grab the Offline Installers, which are known to fall behind when it comes to updates, though admittedly some of the updates supposedly only have Galaxy elements that have been updated, so not relevant to Offline Installers.

So I imagine you are using Galaxy, and because it is some kind of Galaxy related change, it effects many games via Galaxy.

With Offline Installers in the past, it has often just been the installer program inside the downloads that has been changed (updated) and nothing game related.

Because Galaxy tends to auto update, then I imagine every little thing they change initiates an update. As has been suggested it could be for advertising or a name change etc etc etc. It could even be server related, if GOG has changed some aspect of that for when Galaxy needs to talk home.

I certainly hope it isn't negatively related to the XML issues many of us have been having with the GOG SDK, and so a precursor to more of them.
