Apart from bringing loads of fun, video games can also make you change your perspective on the events that happened past. The French Week Sale on GOG is a great opportunity to revisit a few of such historical titles:

Corsairs Gold (-90%) – in this engaging title you are plunged into the world of adventure and thundering cannons. There, you’ll meet historical figures like the famous pirate Blackbeard.

The Council (-70%) – is a narrative adventure game that begins in 1793. You take the role of a secret society member that travels to a private island where you meet a few high-profile guests, including Napoleon Bonaparte and George Washington.

Dead In Vinland (-75%) – this survival and management game tells a heartbreaking story about a Viking family trying their best to survive on a mysterious island.

Steel Division 2 (-75%) – is a strategy game set on the eastern front of WW2. The game puts you in charge of your entire army during the most ferocious battles in human history.

Syberia: The World Before (-38%) – is an adventure game set across continents. The title lets you travel into two fascinating locations and timelines – the town of Vaghen in the year 1937 and the treacherous mines of Taiga in 2004.

Discover these great games with historical backgrounds before the French Week Sale on GOG ends on 20th July 2022, at 1 PM UTC.
Syberia: The World Before is an overall improvement compared to Syberia 3, puzzles for the most part are on the easy side but The story kept me in for the most part.
did the hellpoint DLC have any release announcement?

I'd add "Hero's Hour" to the list, for it lets us experience HoMM (way down the history lane) in a unique way.
>The Council
haha I am laughing hard in real life by the time I got to
"You take the role of a secret society member that travels to "
That does NOT say anything at all remotely close to history. WHich is a shame because that singlehandedly bottomed out my expectation on any of the other titles being even vaguely thematically in line with reality. It's almost less than a "History" Channel show, almost.
>Syberia
ehh I guess it's that way then. I was kinda hoping for actual history, not "experience what daily life was like in the mid 1990s USA by taking on the role of the Commander in the award winning XCOM Enemy Unknown"

Sorry the reason I'm being so harsh is because The Council singularly stands out as the biggest narrative dumpsterfire I think I have ever played. It may actually be even worse than Walking Dead series, an impressive feat
don't get on me about that one Walking Dead 3 may be the worst "game" I have ever played in my entire life, worse than literally anything else ever made potentially, and TWD4 wasn't that much better
. I'd say the first two installments of the Council were pretty neat, before it took one of the most abrupt nosedives into "myspacer suddenly discovers crystal meth posting" tier territory I've ever seen. Which is sad because the first two were worth playing, but #3 starts going sideways, #4 onward is memorably bad.

Thankfully, I didn't buy the game for its historical accuracy.

But if you're saying it's bad because the story makes absolutely no sense, even in a fictional context, I might care about that. Or I might not. I have had some fun in the past playing nonsensical games, as long as I can see what the dev was trying to do.

Thanks for the heads up though. I'm only on Episode 2 and enjoying myself so far, even though this is a very strange game. I'll keep your comments in mind as I continue on.

I'm not sure how anyone can go into a game like this expecting historical accuracy though. The game's description makes it pretty clear that it's fantastical I think.
