Very little info about it yet.

https://www.pcgamer.com/the-team-behind-ion-maiden-is-working-on-a-new-quake-engine-game/

Being a HUGE fan of id Software and by extension, their engines... Am hype. The team behind Ion Maiden and the amazing Arcane Dimension mod are working on it.
That's sooo nice to hear.

"New retro game in unity engine with modern effects" doesn't get me nearly as excited as things that use old or new but original engines.

(That said, I'm not super excited about the first Quack engine.. unless they give it a little spice.)

As long as they don't do a "Duke Nukem Forever" all over again and jump from engine to engine because reasons...
Is Ion Maiden done yet?

I love the concept. We never got enough "Doom" or "Quake" clones before the obsession with graffix kicked into overdrive. I would rather quality content with an ok appearance than mediocre content that is visually stunning.

I can't imagine why they'd do that. Duke Nukem Forever was the devs chasing the newest tech. The whole point of selecting a decades old engine (22 years old now! I feel old...) is for the nostalgia factor like with Ion Maiden.

Pretty hyped as there is some REAL talent here. Ion Maiden looks fantastic and Arcand Dimensions, a mod for Quake 1, was freaking amazing.
I'll get excited about Quakelike once Ion Maiden is complete (it's been delayed to Q2 2019, by the way).
I think Voidpoint are the ones developing it

3D Realms publish Ion Maiden, they aren't the ones creating it
Interesting. For all the recent attempts at making games look "new old school" (usually by dropping Minecraft textures into Unity 5 Engine, making the levels procedural then removing quicksave, none of which are really that accurate vs most 90's shooters engines), to me it's often that snappy, super-responsive of the old 90's engines that makes them feel proper "old-school". It's a shame more devs don't do this. I'd happily pay for more high quality Doom MegaWAD's like a new "Final Doom". Or more "full campaign" Thief mods like another T2X in their original engines. For all the troubles with Night Dive's attempt, I'd be perfectly happy with a System Shock 1 remaster using the System Shock 2 engine too.

Retro with engines that aren't cumbersome.

There was a full length Thief campaign released recently, somewhere around 12 missions, I loved it right until the last mission which was a pain. I can't remember the name.

Edit: Death's Cold Embrace.

Well, if you want:
Thief/thief 2 mods:
http://www.komag.net/ (There was even dvds full from there at one point)

Thief 3, look at the dark mod:
http://www.thedarkmod.com/main/
It's now standalone and has a ton of missions

Doom:
https://www.doomworld.com/

Also, don't forget the project warlock came out recently and that is pretty good, played it all the way through and it's worth looking at. Looking forward to iron maiden also.

I so wish someone would go ahead and make an entirely new game based on the Dark Engine. While lacking in graphical fidelity, in many ways it was the never-equalled pinnacle of immersive sim first person games: the stealth mechanics, the sound propagation, the AI - 20 years onward I have to see a game that did it better than the Dark Engine games.I hope someone would go ahead, unearth some of the old Looking Glass design documents and make Deep Cover.

So much this. I couldn't have said it better.

Also, I'm pretty interested in this new mysterious Quake 1 engine game... yet, let's see how Ion Maiden fares, first! Another likely day one purchase for me.

I'm looking forward to this.
I just just wonder what kind of feel/vibe they are aiming to achieve...
Sheesh, I hate to be THAT guy, but I really dislike all these attempts at retro revivals, even when they do use the real Quake engine in this case. I liked 90s computer games as much as the next guy, but... I'd like to have something to remember the 2010s by too (other than boring third person cutscene-ridden shallow pretentious slow games that focus on graphics over gameplay).

Just make something new in a new engine. Doesn't have to be fancy or anything, just hire a few talented artists who can come up with a nice artstyle that can help you create a nice, modern looking game without the need for all that many dollar bills.

That said though, it seems everyone here's pretty excited about it, so who am I to complain? Go for it.

Deep Cover looks like god tier content. A damn shame it never saw the light of day.

The engines from back in the day were so underutilized.
