Oh. Thank you for informing me, I was not updated on the new regulations. (Bugger, now I need to transfer some of these to someone else.)
I am also against those about politics, I think it's not appropriate and everything else is normal ..

immi101: i'd vote for moving all non-gaming related threads to a seperate off-topic forum. Especially all those endless threads (what are you reading/listing, Forum Mafia, Count in pictures...)
Due to their nature they always occupy a large part of the first few pages and other stuff gets pushed back far too quickly if you don't visit that often

Breja: Separating the General Discussion into to many sub-forums would not be good, you can see the result in the empty game-specific forums. The "political" threads are an exception, because they literally posion the community, and should be kept away from general population.
i was suggesting two forums: general discussion / off-topic
which is the same number of forums that you were suggesting ?

Then we'd need a third one, for the "political" stuff. Also, isn't "general discussion" the same as "off-topic"? I fial to see the distinction.

That's alright,you can't help it (misunderstanding logic).

Kind of a vague term isn't it? :P

as I said in my first post - one forum for gaming related stuff and an off-topic forum for the rest.
rename "general discussion" to something more appropiate, if that helps ;)

counting the number of political topics, I would argue a "politic forum" would be "more empty" then the mentioned game-specific forums. I don't see a need for that

Just to keep the toxic stuff away from the general population. Threads like Gamergate and Erdogan are just arenas for rampant trolling, insults and mass downvoting. I think the damn Erdogan thing alone made three users leave in one week.
As long as Gog continue exclusively DRM-free games there is no reason for me to leave.

That's the reason why I came here in the first place and that the reason why I stay.

Personally I don't really understand why some peoples takes it so "personally", it's just a forum, and a forum of a digital distributor, not the new hype social network.

I come here for the games, if I find a thread/post that interest me I post/answer it, it I don't then I don't and if some peoples act too much like dicks I ignore them; easy.

Then why read and/or post in those threads ? Politics like religion (that include XBox vs PS threads) threads always polarized peoples and always did since the very beginning of internet discussion forum, heck it was already true on Usenet long before the web was even invented.

If you participate on those thread you have to expect that peoples on both sides will have "strong opinions" and that some (again on both sides) won't be able to exprim those opinions without being total pricks and will test your patience. That's, sadly, part of the game you have to either accept it or don't participate.

There is a reason why a lot of forums forbid those king of discussions.

well

I think the forum has incrementally become an extension of the Steam forum, as there seems to be increasingly more Steam users on GOG, bringing with them the Steam forum mentality.

I visit the GOG forum less and less, however leaving the forum does not mean you have to stop buying games from GOG, I see them as two separate entities.
Instead of the forum I've spent more time in GOG's Twitch streams.

Is VR a gaming topic or an off-topic one? Is the firing of Kojima from KONAMI a gaming topic or an off topic one? Is the news about the 77K steam accounts stolen per month a gaming topic or an off-topic one?
And those are easy examples of unclear topics without going into politics of gaming or SJW territory, which do also require the distinction of whether they are gaming or not (a game that promotes a political agenda, is it a gaming topic or a political one? What if the agenda is not prominent, but requires a specific mindset to observe it?).

If you wish to discuss a game sold on GOG, use the game's forum. If you wish to discuss anything else, use the general forum.
Well, well, well... I skip the forum for a few days and come back to see all hell has broken loose.

And for what? What happened? Big nothing from what I can see. Oh, Klumpen left. And then some other guy, then another, then another... I hear the Lemmings theme song. Or maybe it's the pied piper tooting his flute.

My piece of advice to the forum - Relax. You'll live longer. Also, try thinking for yourself instead of being a goddamn clone of the person who posted above you.

With the irony being that the "I was gone for x time and now the forum is y. What happened?" posts are practically clones of each other :-P

The odds are good to see some triumphant returns soon. Point being - one or two disgruntled forumites and a boatload of Me-Toos. Most of these farewells will be forfeit by the end of the week.

I thought about posting a 'here's why I'm not leaving but kinda want to leave because of all the I'm leaving threads', but decided against it. There's only so much room in this place for double-triple inside jokes. Best to let sleeping dogs lie and move on.
