Well, the title says it all. I am playing gene forge 3 and currently have a roamer and my guardian. It took me all of scouring the island 2 to get enough exp and money to purchase a roamer. The problem is I can't defeat vlish. They are like INSANELY powerful and kill me and my roamer with one shot. This has usually been the downfall of my previous games as I lose interest with fighting them. Does anyone have any ideas on tactics or should I just give up?

Keep in mind-my guardian has all the proper stats for his build-strength, quick action, parry, melee and endurance with 2 points into intelligence for shaping.

I find that even if I kill one of the vlish, I have no chance of taking down more than 2 without losing my whole party.

Any way of avoiding areas with vlish until you beef up?

Ok I took your advice and Im sort of getting the hang of it. I passed the vlish woods and im at a fork in the road though and I require anyone that has passed the 2nd island in the 3rd game. Im at the last part of the island and the gamefaqs info doesn't describe how to pass the thadhs in the infested woods. The thadhs come in 3 different types-electric, poison and acid and they keep respawning. I swapped a roamer and instead opted for something more durable- a thadh shade. Melee or ranged has nothing to do with the difficulty. I just want to know if there is a respawner nearby. The real problem i am facing is that I tend to run out of steam once i reach the top of the hill. I can't even get to the top. Any ideas?

you can also try with a creature resistant to magical damage (vlish, glaak or maybe searing artila) so that they can absorb some damage, to give you the time to get near to them. Also try to wear equipment that give energy resistance (or check the damage type of the vlish you're facing).

I'm still on Geneforge 2, so I don't know if equipment dumping is still safe, but MG's advice is fairly solid. Get some resistant gear, dump it at the entrance to the town of your choice, and swap it out whenever you encounter an area that demands that kind of protection.

If that fails, you might also just want to try a different direction. I would almost recommend hit and run type stuff, kill a few thahd's here, a few vlish there, return to town to stock up. Early in the games seems to be the hardest (that and the endgame dungeon).

No that wont work as Geneforge 3 is fairly linear. This is the only direction I can go in to finish the island and also, the thadhs keep respawning. So when I come back to fight more, there are the same amount of thadhs that keep respawning.

I dont know, I kind of exhausted all my ideas for this game, Ill try geneforge 4 and see if guardians can be played in there.

Only thing I can think of is just hit and run to maybe grind out levels. Linearity in a Geneforge game sounds brutal.

Then Ive got bad news for you, Geneforge 3 and 4 are both like that, 4 even moreso. The only one I played of the later games that doesnt have it as much is geneforge 5. What happens in g3 is you get an island to explore and cannot go to the next island until youve done what needs to be done on the current one. You can go anywhere but there are more fixed ways of getting things done.

I dont have a lot of hope for these games. It seems Geneforge 1 I was walked through as an agent. Thats one class thats broken. Probably the only game where the guardian is useful is geneforge 2 where parry can allow you to be unhittable and riposte. Thats too easy. Geneforge 3 4 and 5, guardians are broken and cant do anything.

Basically the only class you can play as is the shaper.
