Hi all, I recently purchased all three GalCiv games and plan on going in order to get a feel for how the series has developed. I have a couple of questions for those of you still playing (or fondly remembering) GalCiv 1:

1. Is the 5% Planet Quality bonus worth the 3 ability points? General consensus (strategy guides) seem to think it's almost worthless in the latest patches or with the Altarian expansion.
2. What are people's thoughts regarding a 20% Trade Income bonus vs an additional Trade Route? Both are worth 3 points.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

1. On the PQ bonus, note that the bonus is rounded down. Meaning that only planets PQ 20 and above will get an immediate effect on tiles/ development possibilities. Of course, when you further develop it will have some effect. And there is also a secondary effect on happiness. But my feeling is that this bonus is far better under GC II than GC I. You may prefer boosting your research or production instead.

2. The more your empire grows and develops trade routes , the more the bonus income will be the one you will like ( or regret not to have chosen ). So, in the end, it wll comes down to your gameplay style. If you like huge galaxies with long lasting games, for for the revenue bonus. If you play quicker games in smaller clusters, both are ok-ish.
Galciv1 wow that tests the old memory cells....

What i can remember is this;

I used to take 'luck' and then mostly things that improve ships.

The thing with Galciv1 is that you can increase your strength and economy to infinity using terror stars. You can stack any number of them in one sector.

I remember one time enemy battleships dying when attacking my unarmed sensors i had so many bonuses from so many terror stars!!

Terror stars is the one thing i really missed in the later versions of the game, very sad. They no longer exist because It is not fitting with the almighty 'game balance' gods that most players worship (basteds) and patches probably nerfed those things i was doing in Galciv1 by now i bet?? be warned.
