Started playing on my wife's laptop. I want to switch over to my desktop, but I can't seem to locate the save files. The "Save Games" directory is empty (not even hidden files, tried that), so they are not there. I even deleted the folder and loaded the game from the laptop to make sure it would load my progress and it did so, just fine.

Where the heck does the game actually create the save files? What should I copy to tranfer my progress?

My Win7 PC does store the saves in the "Save Games" subdirectory, but it should be noted that I installed the game from an admin account.

Other games in the series are known to use odd folders for savegames under some circumstances (like "C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Virtual Store\Program Files\gog.com\Gabriel Knight"); this may have to do with whether you've installed the game into the default "Program Files" folder and/or whether you have admin rights, so you might want to check that location.

Also, the GK3 save files have the format "save####.gk3", where #### is the number of the save entry. If you can't locate them manually, you could try to run a search for "save0001.gk3" to see what it brings up.

Strangely enough, that doesn't seem to work...

I already had the idea to look for the save files by name through search, but no dice. There must be something fishy with the installation or the laptop and although I can't see the files via Vista, they work just fine.

Like I said, I deleted the folder names "Save Files" from the game directory and launched the game and still they worked just fine, so they are hidden somewhere else.

I will experiment with different users and maybe find something that way.

Any other ideas, anyone?

EDIT: Nevermind. Found it. You inspired me with what you said about different users. They were in the folder they were supposed to be and they were not hidden files (which is why the "hidden file view" didn't work). Stupid Vista...

Turns out, I needed to select to view compatibility files (not sure of the actual term, since my Vista is a Greek version).

Stupid Vista...

Thanks for the help, though. If you hadn't mentioned the users thingy, I wouldn't have experimented with it.
