Hi there,

Like many people, I am completely at a loss about how to get Gabriel Knight 3 working on a modern computer (Windows 10). Flickering graphics, game locking up, crashing completely after a few seconds,

There seem to be a few explanations out there with various solutions (most involving the downloading of various patches, files and other stuff), but most veer into complex technical language that I don't understand.

I doubt I'm alone in saying it would be massively appreciated if someone can post a clearly-worded, idiot proof explanation as to what needs to be done to get GK3 working correctly on a Windows 10 machine:

- Step-by-step if possible, please!

- Explaining EXACTLY what needs to be downloaded (if anything), EXACTLY where to find it, and EXACTLY what to do with it once downloaded.

- For example, please don't just say 'add a dll file to the game directory' - explain precisely how to do so!

Any help with this would be fantastic, and I daresay loads and loads of people will be helped by it.

Cheers,
Toby

I did following for Win10 64 Professional to run the game:
(I dont use GOG Galaxy downloader)

1) download Gabriel knight offline install file from GOG
2) Install
3) Download new gk3.exe (to circumvent cd copy protection)
at http://files.gog.com/support/GK3.zip
4) Extract gk3.exe from zip
5) Make backup of C:\GOG Games\Gabriel Knight 3\GK3.exe
6) Replace C:\GOG Games\Gabriel Knight 3\GK3.exe with new gk3.exe
7) Right click Gabriel Knight 3 icon on deskttop --> properties --> compatibility --> set compaltibility mode to Windows 95
8) Play game
9) If flickering: In game go to Options --> advanced options --> graphic options --> disable "incremetal rendering"
Flickering should disappear.

I did all that. They didn't seem to change anything. This is my problem:

Resolution seems weirdly stretched,
My taskbar remains visible over the game (hiding part of the game),
Everything is flickering to a maddening point.
I can't even find the options to try any graphics changes. I tried F1 but no luck with graphics options so far. Any help would be appreciated.
I use windows 8.1.

Edit:

I've found a comment on steam recommending to "use dgvoodoo2 wrapper and GK3Launcher". Can anyone confirm? http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/QuickGuide.html

Edit2: Update

Someone helped with some info about the registry. I didn't have a Incremental Rendering entry, so I added one myself (Reg_DWORD) and set it to 0. I also added a Surface Quality entry (REG_SZ) and set it to low.

It seems to have helped with the flckering in the menu page and the intro vid, but not in the game itself. So, still unplayable for me. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Cheers!
