New to this...installed the game but the movies look like they are playing in the old 256 colors.

Everything is very blocky and pixelated.

I know the game didn't play this badly back then.

Is there a way to tell dosbox or something to use more colors?

They ARE playing in 256 colours.
GK2 was made in 1995, when the use of 16bit and 32bit colours was just in the very beginning.
GK2 will run better in 256 than the others, as the game was created with that setting in mind.
To get better quality in game, set the shortcut for running in 256 colours. For better video, use small video in the options ingame, rather than big video.

(I'm guessing you're talking about GK2 since you mention video)

GK2 is using a fan mod that removes the 'scanlines'. Personally I'd prefer if GOG would leave out the fan mods, or give a choice of using them or not. I think the full screen videos look better with the scan lines, as it masks the artifacting.

I'm also not a huge fan of that 'overlay' the fan mod adds to producer screen, when the game first loads.

If you look on youtube the video looks a lot better so maybe it's just our version of the game that sucks.
