I have This War of Mine on GOG and it seemed like the developers were a lot more involved with patching and fixing the game on Steam. The patches took a lot longer to come to GOG, the developers never answered questions on GOG forums but they did on Steam and the Charity DLC was a Steam exclusive.

Is there any reason to think they won't do the same for Frostpunk? Have the developers made any comment on their plans for the GOG release?

I would prefer to get the game on GOG but I want the best experience. Going on their last game, this will be great but buggy so knowing that patches will be released as soon as possible is important.

Thanks

maybe ask them on steam for a reason if they never check GoG ahaha

Seeing Frostpunk coming on GoG I decided to give GoG a chance and buy it here.
Hope getting same bugfixing service as on steam...

I certainly hope so. Time will tell.
Wow. I just found this thread. And I'm also having the exact same concern. About GOG support versus Steam Support.

Now I'm starting to feel like buying it from GOG is a huge mistake from what you're saying. People who buy the GoG version is going to get low support. Updates and new content.

I'm worried now that There won't be new scenarios for GOG users. Since they promised new scenario updates on their steam blogs. But they don't have a blog here on GOG. So that promise probably doesn't extend to GoG users.

There was a blog posting on GOG from developers. And this is what is worrisome.

"10. What platforms can we expect?
Frostpunk will be available on Steam, Humble Store, GOG and other digital stores for Windows. For the time being be sure to follow it on Steam and add it to your Wishlist, though! "

Basically they're redirecting people to Steam.

What?

I can say: "This blog entry is not updated because the game is already available and they said 'will be' so they 'basically' abandoned Steam" - this sentence is on the same panic level as yours. :P

I've been reading about Workshop support on Steam as well, where communities can add their own MODS and scenario creations to share with other gamers.

I'm so regretting buying this game on GOG.

I feel mislead to believe I was getting a steam key from buying it through GOG through some guy's discount code.
GOG and Steam are two different platforms and gathered two different-minded communities.

I do not mind slightly delayed* official patches and mods as long as I get DRM-free product where I would not be linked nor spied. I would not afraid to get no patches at all for all bigger titles and I assume Frostpunk is one of them for GOG.

*This delay (in most cases) is caused because GOG tests them, Steam does not.

According to the developers posting. They said they have been 'collecting' data related to your play-through.

I suppose you're getting spied on involuntarily anyways regardless. Not sure if that is the case with GOG versions. But it was a blog they posted on steam. not sure if they're collect data from steam users only.

Just saying if you're worried about being spied on.
I said that only as a wider example of Steam vs GOG thing, not just about Frostpunk. Yes, it is true that one developer will not care about that, but some of the others will. GOG's DRM-free releases allow me to skip that general layer of monitoring that other gaming platforms use.

Year I had a lot of similar consideration, and was wondering where to buy. In the end I was persuade by the fact that GOG was the only place they had a option for pre-purchase, and therefore I heard people talking about the wanted people to buy the GOG version, maybe because it gave them a better revenue than steam. So I went for the gog version, which by the way I like because it is an alternative for steam, and I think we will all benefit from having more than one game store. However I think all the updates and extra dlc will probly also come to gog, what I am more concerned about is the easy in which to share and create mods and scenarios, as I see there is a huge potential for this. Here steam is normally quite good, whereas I am uncertain about GOG.
However at this point I don't think there is much else to do but wait and see how the developer wants to play this out. I would say that I don't regret buying it a second, I think it is an awesome game, but then again, it runs without any issues for me. Had I had trouble I might have a different opinion.
