The calculation of the generator coal consumption per day seems to be wrong.

The more steam hubs are on, the lower the generator consumption in the "Coal balance" window.
The total hourly consumption displayed in the generator tab seems to be correct.

Some examples for Steam level 3, Genrator range 2, steam hubs with different ranges and hours:
All values measured at about noon.

All steam hubs off:
28 per hour (28*24=672)
Generator: 691 per day
Steam hubs: 0 per day
Heaters: 0 per day

Some steam hubs on:
71 per hour (71*24=1704)
Generator: 431 per day
Steam hubs: 1236 per day
Heaters: 0 per day

All 10 steam hubs on:
91 per hour (91*24=2184)
Generator 316 per day
Steam hubs: 1752 per day
Heaters: 0 per day

That occured to me a while ago, when there was a positive number (meaning coal win!) on th daily generator consumption.

The consumption on steam hubs and heaters and the hourly total seem to be correctly calculated.
Perhaps i missed something, but why should active steam hubs lower the daily generator consumption?
The "Generator Efficiency" upgrade unintentionally lowers coal usage in Steam Hubs, but the difference is shown as an additional "positive income" in Generator Coal usage. So for each Steam Hub there your coal usage in Generator will be lower by 7 or 15 (depending on "Generator Efficiency" level upgrade)

Nice find by the way
