When I installed the game earlier I was greeted with THIS lovely message.

As far as I know, I think I'm all up to date on my drivers and everything... Even verified the install via GOG Galaxy to make sure that wasn't the cause.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a dullard like me?

Getting the exact same message. Goggled it and none of the solutions are working for me. I have re-installed the game. Updated drivers for PC and graphics card. Re-installed Visual C++ and Framework and still nothing. Anyone know i really want it to work.

Same here, I've also tried all the suggested updates and dowloads to no avail. Windowed mode, run as admin, no dice.

Though I've yet to try running it via steam-engines yet.

I had this issue on Win7 x64 (enterprise edition). I ran the exe in the game directory and got the message that the d3dcompiler_47.dll was missing. I got to this windows update catalog (catalog_update_microsoft_com/Search_aspx?q=KB4019990 replace all underscores with dots) and it has several windows versions available. Once that is installed, I was able to run successfully. Hope this helps.

I'm on Windows 8 x64 and I'm in the process of a nice big windows update and I'll see if it works after that. I've already nabbed the recommended downloads including that one, but thanks!

I'm on Windows 7 x64, and in my case installing those two things (in addition to KB4019990, latest VC and nvidia 397.31 drivers) helped:

I'm on here trying to find a solution. I have it on Steam. I get a 0xc000007b error on mine. Did everything that I could find online, and nothing worked. I'm on a ROG Strix laptop: Ryzen 7 1700, Raedon RX 580, 16mb RAM, Windows 10. Should be able to run this game no problem. I have the same problem with Prison Architect too for some reason. and that was a GOG purchase. I hope there is a solution found soon. It's been a drag not being able to play some games. A lot of what little info I could find pointed to corrupt .dll files that needed to be replaced, which I did, SEVERAL TIMES, to no avail. I'm not sure if it'a a rare problem, but there seems to be very little support out there for it.

Someone tell these guys how to write software... trying to update all I can but at the moment KB4019990 did not help. Stellaris which uses the same package runs well. Trying with the pakets from sqvarek now...

He is my hero - one of the two or both did it, it runs now. See the sqvarek post for the links.

I am on windows 10. I can launch the game, then I chose a Scenario and start. I see the loading page and then... it's over. I see just my desktop again. The game has crushed without loading the Scenario.

So not certain if this will fix your issue, but I finally got my Frostpunk to launch.

I noticed in my game folder that the _redist had two empty folders for MSVC2017. So I went to Microsoft and downloaded and installed the redist's. Rebooted, and tried to launch again, and it started up for me the very first time.

You can get them here:

Go to Other Tools and Frameworks > Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2017

I installed both the x64 and x86 for good measure but you probably only need the correct one for your CPU architecture.

Windows 8.1 here. Game launched but crashed when trying to progress from initial screen. Changing display settings didn't help.

Got the game working after only an update to the latest Nvidia drivers (which had been pretty old).

This may help others with what to try first.

Same game wont start anymore after lat patch...

just bought the game, and after clicking Play, nothing happens, line of text changes on the right, and then nothing
the Play button changes from grey to green and thats it
windows 7 here, drivers up to date
