This is pretty frustrating - every time I move the mouse cursor to the bottom of the screen, the Windows taskbar attempts to pop through. If I click anywhere in this region, Windows assumes I'm no longer inside Freespace and kicks me out. When I try to maximize Freespace again, I get nothing (the entire monitor freezes up, and I have to use the task manager on a 2nd monitor to kill FS.EXE). I can't play for more than a few minutes before I inevitably click somewhere near the bottom of the screen.

Is there a solution?
I have a similar problem and it makes this game completely unplayable. For me the start menu is always showing and if I alt + tab the game hard locks up and I have to use Task Manager to close it.

Edit:

Just noticed the FS2 Open mod and used that, much much better! However, if I alt + tab and got back to the game, while it doesn't lock up anymore, the start menu is always showing again when I click back. It doesn't overlap, it actually "pushes" the entire video out of view on the opposite side of the start menu.

The FS2 Open Launcher does not show a windowed mode but does anyone know if that's possible? Running in windowed mode is vastly preferable as I have 3 monitors so if I want to interact w/ anything outside the game briefly it always brings up this perma-start menu until I restart the game.

Using FS2_Open_Launcher_3.1.3 on a Mac the last tab (DevTools) has a command line option -window that works for me.

I run FS2 windowed on a Mac via FS2_Open. I like running it windowed so that Command-Tab app switching still works and I can read a strategy guide off to the side. It's sweet.

Funny, I went to FS2_Open to fix terrible crashes I had playing on Windows 7. Then with I found FS2_Open I discovered I can run the game on my Mac with the better display, now I love it even more!

My Mac has a 4K display, so I run FS2 in a 1440x900 window on a 1650x1080 desktop. Right about perfect.
