I ask because I'm unable to locate a means to get the throttle working on my disk copy of Freespace II.
I'd be willing to pay for a new copy from here if the updating I know happens here means I can play using the throttle controls on my joystick. Controlling speed purely via keyboard controls is very cumbersome.

Is this a seperate throttle or just a slider thing on the stick?
If the latter, you have to manually map it to the throttle axis, in the controls, find the throttle up/down, select map control and move the slider up or down, it should say Z Axis

I have one and it works with all axes+throttle in FS2. Under XP at least, didn't try Vista yet.
If you have the original game files though, get the open source engine and use your data files. Should work with your SWP2.

Hi there,
The throttle should work fine. There is a control setting in game called "Absolute throttle" (or a similarly named one). Activate this and try the throttle.

The throttle isn't enabled by default in either game.

You go to the options menu, then to ship controls, and look for "absolute throttle." Choose to rebind that, and then move the throttle on the joystick and it'll show up as Z-Axis.
