In this mission you are suppose to escort 3 ships 1 of which being the "Lucidity" a long range sensor ship. Every time I replay this long mission the Lucidity does nothing but drift through space, never following the other 2 ships and thus never finishing the mission. I would hate to stop playing this game but it seems forever bugged , any suggestions?

Are you playing vanilla or FSO Freespace 2? In any case, here is a video of someone playing the mission. At what point does the sim break down and diverge from it?

Thanks for the reply! I am playing whichever version GOG gives you so I guess vanilla. The ship breaks from the beginning, it just floats around the starting gate. The mission plays out normally until the end where the 3rd ship is apparently needed

So Volition (Freespace's developer) released the source code to Freespace 2 and the Freespace 2 community has been keeping up the engine. It really makes it look beautiful on modern machines, so I'd recommend it. It may also solve your problem (though I would of course backup your plater profile just in case before downloading it). Instructions to install it can be found all over the forums here or on hard-light.net.

Hmmm ... as for this bug in particular, I am not sure. I've encountered one or two bugs myself, but not this one. So do you not get the ending dialog? Starting where the Lucidity contacts the Warspite? It starts at 8 min 48 s in the video and the Warspite acknowledges the end of the mission at around 10 min 07. You can also go to hard-light.net to get tech support for the vanilla version. Which difficulty level are playing on?
The install instructions looked really over complicated so I didn't mess with it but I'll give it a go if it means fixing this.

Lucidity never contacts Warspite as it never flies in no matter how long I wait, I'm assuming its because the lucidity needs to cross a line it never crosses for it to trigger
Wow! The game looks fantastic, I'm glad I played the game in vanilla so I could appreciate the upgrade. The mission works perfectly now too! (the Mod guide on GOG is wayyy more simple than the hard light one)

Thanks a lot!

My pleasure. :) Sometimes the mission scripting and friendly AI is tied to the difficulty level and that can cause problems, but that's not *supposed* to cause problems for the retail campaigns (some user-made mods may have a recommended difficulty level to be played on^). So even with FSO, you might experience a couple of bugs like I did here - never did get an actual solution for it, but I got through it in the end despite the bug:

^Speaking of Freespace 2 user made mods set in the Freespace 2 universe - I would recommend the Blue Planet series. The first game in it, Age of Aquarius, is good, but the second game, War in Heaven, is brilliant. They're working on a final third game. Highly recommended after finishing the FS2 campaign. You can also play Freespace 1 in the FSO engine through the mod FSport. Also recommended!
