Hello :)

I was wondering if anyone has this working.

I've previously used Game Commander for certain profiles, but I prefer the idea of the built in system; saying "Alpha 2, destroy my target" rather than several commands - one to open the Communications, a second to select Alpha wind, third to select Alpha 2, etc...

I gather it's not really included in the FSO builds now (from what I could gather) however I'm not sure it's something that I can put in as the parameter is still in the launchers.

Cheers

I did a simple test using the 3.7.2 RC4 and enabled the Voice Recognition option in the wxLauncher and it worked in the game (FSPort). I did not even train the voice system before trying it. This was on a Windows 7 64 bit system using a headset

For increased awesomeness you need one of these.

Hi, thanks for this.

When I turn that option on I get a "failed to load resource" and I saw a similar issue on the hardlight forums with a reply of "do you have -voicer on?" (paraphrased). I turned this off and the game runs fine.

I've using the same build though I have the windows Launcher. I'll try with the wxLauncher.

I understand that FSPort is moving the Freespace game in FS2 for better performance, assets etc... I haven't done this, so I might try with this also.

I'm also Win7 64.

Have you run the Freespace 2 Open installer? It will make sure all your files are up to date. Yes use wxLauncher and the 3.7.2 executable.

Also check Control Panel and make sure you have the Speech Recognition app installed and then configure and set it up

Thanks for the help. The game is now running correctly and I believe the issue was with the speech recognition within windows having been turned off. Essentially it was not listening.

The commands don't seem to be working for me though it may not understand my accent. It also keeps thinking I'm saying other things like "Switching to Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic" and alt-tabs me out of the game.

You did answer my question though, so thank you :)

Karl
Remember you can train the VR to your voice. Try that
I tried that also.

It doesn't seem to register than I'm talking within the game.

Might just have the play as is for now until I sort it out. Or of course, use Game Commander again or some such.

Thanks again :)

Hi, FSO release engineering here. Care to try the VS2013 build I've posted at www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=89581 and let me know how that goes for you? I've already had confirmation that the voice recognition in that build is working for multiple users. You may want to see the wiki page at www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Voice_Recognition for tips on setting it up as well. Sorry for the thread necro but I've been working on getting Voice Rec enabled by default in SVN in preparation for the release compiler bump from VS2008 to VS2013.

Hey

Thanks for the reply. I had forgotten all about this.

I'm currently between gaming (no room in our place, so the computer is in a cupboard) but should be able to try in a few weeks. I'll let you know how I get on :)

Cheers

Hey

I've had a look at this however I'm getting a "Failed to load resource" error.

I may be making a mistake.

I unzipped the file in my Freespace 2 folder, directed the FSO Launcher to the FS2_OPEN_3_7_3_SSE2 file and the enabled the voice recognition.

We might still not be linking the voice recognition resource files into the executable correctly on VS 2013, I will double check when I get a chance.
