Hi everyone,

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this, but I've encountered a very odd problem with Freespace 2 Open. I'm using the Fs2_open_3_6_12r_INF_SSE2.exe build of Freespace 2 Open. I managed to get everything installed as it should be, but when I select my build in the launcher, or try to launch the game, I get a really weird error. It says something to the effect of "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive D:" (D: is my DVD drive). I have the option to click cancel, try again, or continue. Regardless of which I choose, the error will close, and then pop right back open immediately. I have to mash the cancel button repeatedly. After 10 or so tries, the game will launch, but will have no cinematics.

I can launch the GOG vanilla version of Freespace 2 just fine, even play it without issue. I can't imagine why Freespace 2 Open would be looking for a DVD in the drive, when I'm using the GOG version. Who ever heard of an open source program adding in a Disk Check?! That's rather weird!

If anyone could provide any assistance, I'd greatly appreciate it.
FSO-related questions would get faster responses at Hard Light Productions.

In any case, a somewhat known issue. http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=70289.0

No one knows exactly why. Hell, I've encountered it a few times myself and for some reason the problem disappeared as fast and as mysteriously as it appeared.

Google did bring that result up, but it seemed different - There was insistence in that thread that it was a Windows issue. Further investigation revealed that Windows has this problem with removable media (smart cards / card readers). In my case, I have no card reader or removable media, so the fixes cited weren't possible.

Sorry for cluttering up this forum with an unnecessary question, though. The hard light forum seemed to be indicating they didn't want to discuss the issue, owing to it's being "A windows issue" in their opinion (Up to a mod threatening a lock). I didn't want to rock the boat over there, so I thought I'd just ask if anyone around here, because I feel GOG to be a much more friendly and helpful community.
As explained in the thread, the cause of this error is the debugging code we're using. That said, you really shouldn't be getting that error on the final build, the release build, or any of the nightly builds.
Same here. I wonder if there is a an installation instruction for Linux. So far I ahve found this:
Installing FreeSpace 2 Open, but I can't find this "fs2_open build" to download. Where is it?

It's a reaaaaaaly long shot but try:
a) Windows compatibility settings
b) build without SSE2 support, eg. SSE.
c) install game to a simple path, without spaces, dots and so on, eg. E:\Games\FS2
d) install VirtualBox and Ubuntu on it (or run live CD) and use WINE (LOL, sometimes I surprise myself) or native Linux binary file
Other than that, I have no Idea. :'(

Release: 3.6.12 Final:

LINUX Builds
Inferno Build (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)
fs2_open_3_6_12_INF.tar.bz2
MD5: d23808d48981bfa6b88cb0696160df86
http://swc.fs2downloads.com/builds/LINUX/fs2_open_3_6_12_INF.tar.bz2

For some odd reason, it is archived multiple times, so you have to unpack it three times. :')
Remember to set permissions to executable.

Teflon.Djinn: *CUT*
Oh, try downloading file gain. Maybe it's just corrupted?

EDIT:
Well, I think I'll try and make a tutorial for Linux installation (when I muster an hour of spare time).
EDIT 2:
Nevermind. :')
