Hi there,
I already have a original copy of Freespace 1 on disc and with that installation I can only set the graphics to 640x480. i was wondering, with the GOG version, can I set the resolution any higher than 640x480?
Thanks.
Unfortunately not. Back then, 640*480 was stunningly high resolution and not many games developers even thought of having a variable resolution as it would mean having to redo their artwork, etc. so a resolution of 640*480 is hardcoded. Freespace 2 runs in resolutions up to 1024*768 IIRC, and should still do so with the GOG release.
GOG is about making games work on new systems, not performing miracles ;)
Alright, thanks for your reply. ;)
It's a shame really because I think FS1 would look just as good as FS2 if the resolution could go any higher.
Isn't there a remake/total conversion or a mod kicking around for FS1?

If you do have Freespace 2 and FSOpen, you must check this:
http://fsport.hard-light.net/website/
It's a complete port of the Freespace 1 campaign for Freespace 2/FSOpen. You can also get it using the FSOpen installer (it's easier that way); for more instructions, see below:
http://www.fsoinstaller.com/
Thanks a lot for those links Wolfox.

You're welcome. I want everyone to enjoy the Freespace series to the fullest. ;-)
I have installed Freespace 2 and patched it to v1.20. I then downloaded and installed FS Open installer and Freespace 2 runs fine, in fact it's never looked and sounded better.

Just one question though, how do I get the FS1 port to work? Do I need FS1 installed?

Update: It's ok, I've found out how to get the FS1 port working. For all those that don't know you need to start up the FS Open launcher (in the Freespace 2 main directory), click on MOD, click on Select MOD, scroll down and select fsport (don't double click on it just highlight it), click OK then click on Apply, then click on Run. Once on the FS1 main screen click on the campaign room and select the Freespace 1 Port in there and then click on Accept and away you go.

Just came here from the first Google result for changing the game resolution, and thank you both, it works great!
