Yes, there is a mod for
Freespace 2 named
Freespace Port.
This mod basically let you play both the original
Descent: FreeSpace and its expansion
Silent Threat using
Freespace 2 engine. The mod obviously requires a copy of
Freespace 2 but it doesn't require
Descent: Freespace.
Freespace Port is compatible with the retail version of
Freespace 2, but it is optimized for
Freespace Open which is the open-source, enhanced port of
Freespace 2 engine. Therefore the best way to install
Freespace Open is using the mod manager
Knossos or the
FreeSpace Open Installer: both of them use your copy of
Freespace 2, install
Freespace Open and then
Freespace Port.
