I played FS1 years back, but I can't remember if I had an analog throttle at the time. I do have one now, however, and I can't seem to get FS to recognize it. So far I've been using the keyboard shortcuts, but they're not always easy to find quickly without looking away from the screen.
I'm using a Logitech Wingman Force 3D and its built-in throttle.
Thanks in advance!

are you using the launchers (gog) joystick option or this?
accessing
C:/program files/gog.com/freespace
and launch the freespace application exe. This gives you a launcher, then go into setup, go to the joystick tab and in the joystick dropdown menu .
you want the freespace.exe the actual .exe that launches the game is fs.exe
mine works just fine... I have a microsoft sidewinder pro (this thing has lasted me near ten years, its ridiculously sturdy). all I have to do is when I go into the key bind menu is to click on the throttle (relative I believe? I forget) and then wiggle the throttle and it picks it up as an axis (#4 after yaw, pitch, and tilt) and works just fine... do all your other buttons work?

Hey there,
I had this problem previously. In the Ship section of Contol Command section of the Freespace ingame options there is an Absolute Throttle binding. Bind the throttle to this by clicking on Absolute Throttle and moving the throttle :)

Thanks all for your help!
I had tried using the launcher (though normally I do not use this), however Windows recognized the throttle just fine. It was only in the game that it was not recognized.
ilves and Karlallen hit the nail on the head. I thought I had checked the control settings, but obviously I had not, because when I checked them (again??) there was nothing assigned to the Absolute Throttle. I set the axis (and did the same for Banking) and it works now!
Thanks again everyone. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
The keyboard controls were killing me. This is a great find, thank you for this information.
