MWLaymon366: Sooooo, how is this done on a Mac? There is no 'Save' folder within the package contents.
Saves are shadow-written under your Home folder. Anyway, for Mac.
Thank you for your help!

rmeakins: Try putting the contents of the SAVE directory from Secret of the Silver Blades in this path:
C:\GOG Games\Pools of Darkness\SECRET\SAVE

I believe that path is specified in the POOL4.CFG file.
This is the only thing that seemed to work as of this posting.
Hi all - if you're cloud_saves through Gold Box Companion - you need to copy the save directory from there.

So here is the order

1. Finish Secrets.
2. Download POD
3. Navigate to the cloud_saves directory in Secrets and copy the save folder.
4. Navigate to POD directory
5.Create a new Folder called Secret
6. Paste Save directory into Folder called Secret
7. Start POD, choose Load Game - Secret
I have tried to transfer characters fromSOTSB to POD but it is not working. I copied the whole file and renamed it to secret but still dont work.

The above solution did not work for me. The way it worked for me was to put all the save and character data here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Pools of Darkness\SECRET
(not in a SAVE folder)

I followed your instructions and they worked great-thx. But....when I save within POD, exit the game and come back, it always asked where to load saved game from, "Pool" or "Secret", I can't load the game that I just saved within POD! I also created a character within POD, but couldn't I load or find the character I just created.

Like Okiedoug, I've found that despite the admirable clarity of these instructions, they didn't work for me. I'm playing GOG's Goldbox games on a Mac OS X, and with all the info on the forums found work-arounds for the previous games in the series, but am blocked with POD because it looks for saved games rather than isolated character files. I've tried everything suggested on here, and a few other ideas besides (rewriting the POOL4.CFG file with the directory location of SOTSB on my computer) & nothing works.

Too bad, as I was looking fwd to finishing the series with some of the same characters I'd started it with. If anybody has new suggestions, happy to hear 'em!

I'm on OSX, I just tested the method you quoted (with a couple changes) and it now works successfully. I'm not using Galaxy, I'm using the "Offline Backup Game Installers". If the following doesn't work with Galaxy then I'm afraid I cannot help and I'd recommend you contact support. (Except you could try downloading the offline backup installer of Pools, move and re-name the cloudsave directory from Secret to the location I give below inside Pools, then run the offline Pools app, transfer the characters and re-save the game, and then move/rename Pools' save directory back to Pools' cloudsave directory location, but no guarantee it will work because I don't use Galaxy so I can't test it.)

1. Navigate to wherever you have your Secret of the Silver Blades App, right-click and select "Show Package Contents" and navigate to: Secret of the Silver Blades/Contents/Resources/game

2. Select the folder named "SAVE" and copy it

3. Navigate to wherever you have your Pools of Darkness App, right-click and select "Show Package Contents" and navigate to: Pools of Darkness/Contents/Resources/game

4. Within that "game" directory create a new directory called SECRET

5. Within that new "SECRET" directory, paste the "SAVE" directory

Now, when you load Pools of Darkness, you can choose to add characters from Secret and it works.

Thanks very much for this....While it didn't work while playing via Galaxy, once I DLed the Offline Backup version (TBH this is my first experience with GOG & I didn't even realize that was an option) your suggestion worked like a charm.

Cheers!

gremach: Thrilled beyond belief to finally see these games here. I missed these as they were my first experience with D&D on any type of computer. I'm running into some issues though. I can't seem to figure out how to transfer my characters between games. most notably from silver blades to pools of darkness.
The other issue is inside pools I can't seem to remember where to go for training and selling after you leave Phlan in the beginning.
I would love to play these through from PoR-PoD (Possibly skipping PoR due to no pallies). If anyone can figure out what needs to be done to get the character transfer to work that would be awesome. As well as reminding me where to train and id/sell loot.

Thanks,
Ralph

DoctorPirx: Ok, I think I can help. The character transfer process is little bit different in every game, which is annoying. Also, it's not always possible to do it in-game. The way GOG configured DOSBox makes it a pretty difficult to achieve a character transfer.

To your questions:

1. Training is only possible in training halls. In some games it costs 1000 gold pieces (=200 platinum pieces) per level. Usually the cities have one training hall, but some haven't and you must backtrack a bit. In POD the first/best location to level up (after the prologue) is Dragonhorn Gap.

2. Identifying and selling loot can be done in every shop (regardless of what they're selling IIRC). Again, you must get "lucky" and happen to be in a town where there are any. In POD, again, the first/best location is Dragonhorn Gap.

3. Character transfer
Firstly, BACKUP your game files!

3.1 POR -> COTAB:
- copy the whole directory (not just the content) \Pool of Radiance\POOLRAD to \Curse of the Azure Bonds\
- Edit the file dosbox_coab_single.config in a text editor by deleting the last line ("exit") from it.
- Edit the short cut "Launch Curse of the Azure Bonds" and delete the parameter "-exit" at the end of the "target" command.
- Launch the game and exit from it.
- type COPYCURS and hit [ENTER]
- navigate (with the cursor keys) to "Pool of Radiance to Curse of the Azure Bonds"
- when asked "Move characters FROM which drive?" select "other"
- default should be C:\POOLRAD. If not enter C:\POOLRAD
- when asked "Move characters TO which drive?" select "other"
- default is C:\CURSE\SAVE. Change that to C:\SAVE
- Done.

3.2 COTAB -> SOTSB
This is the most annoying one.
You cannot transfer your characters when they are "in" a party. You must remove them from your party before trying to export them. This must be done in COTAB's main menu (remove character from party).
Important note: If you've beaten the game and saved & exited it, you can't remove your characters anymore. You must either do it from a previous savegame or right after beating the game BEFORE exiting it.
- launch COTAB and load your save
- remove all characters from party
- exit the game
- copy the whole directory \Curse of the Azure Bonds\SAVE to \Secret of the Silver Blades\
- launch SOTSB
- choose "Add character to party", then "CURSE"
- you should see a list of your COTAB characters; add them
- done

3.3 SOTSB -> POD
This should be the "easiest" one.
- copy the whole directory \Secret of the Silver Blades to \Pools of Darkness
- then rename that directory from "Secret of the Silver Blades" to "SECRET"
- launch POD
- choose "load save game", then "SECRET"
- done

GOG made it unnecessarily difficult mainly because of the long names for the game directories and the addition of the exit command so that the DOSBox window closes right after exiting the game.
However, the procedures described above should work, even if they are a bit convoluted.
And how am i supposed to do any of this? because I cannot get into these files to do any of this crap. thank you but this does not help me. I wish you could show me how to do this in person.
