I'm stuck trying to play Pool of Radiance on my MacBook Pro.

Has anyone else done this successfully? If so, what keyboard mapper did you use?

I need the numeric keypad to move and select things in menus. OK, fine, I've found the DOSBox keyboard mapper and mapped the numeric keypad to keys that I do have.

BUT the game still won't play. I can usually move in menus now, but not in certain screens. Specifically, during encampment I cannot move among my characters. I can when I'm not encamped, and then I can go into encampment with that character selected, but I cannot change who is selected during encampment. I also can't change the order of party members because when I select Order I can't move in the menu.

It's bizarre. I have found that when I use the 3/Menu Page Down button it will send me to the first character on the list during encampment. Also, when I try to change the character they all flash briefly as if I have done something, as if it tried to move them but then went back to the top.

Has anyone else had a problem like this with these games? What keys do you use to move in the menus during encampment?

Edit:

Solved it! mapper is tricky to use.

My solution is pretty inelegant, but I think it works. I deleted the arrow keys, plus, minus, and the brackets, and replaced them with the numeric keypad numbers. The arrows move up down left right, minus and left bracket are 1/7 menu up/down, and plus right bracket are 3/9.

The trick was to delete those keys' functions completely before remapping them. On some menus (like encamp!), those keys' other functions were interfering with the menu for some reason.

Hope this helps others.
