When the games (Tried EotB 1 & 2 so far) load up, DOSBox opens full screen with a black screen.

After a while I figured I'd try minimizing it to see if it crashed. As it makes the screen smaller again, I noticed the load options were there... So I enlarged again and the screen goes black.

As it stands, I cannot have the games on full screen. Is this a common/known problem and is there a fix? Or is it just a case of 'deal with it'?

weird it should open up with a black screen with a series of options, maybe you should try opening up the game's dosbox.conf file and fiddle around with the output options and see if that helps. The conf file should be something like dosbox_eob1.conf and then go down to the line output= and change it from surface to ddraw or opengl and see if that helps.

This. If a non-surface option doesn't fix it then look for different drivers for your GPU.

Thanks a lot guys. I wasn't even aware of the DOSbox config... Changing it to DDraw has resolved this :).
