I am just wondering if there are any good FRUA designs that portray LGBT characters in a positive light.

Here is what I am looking at:

1. There must be at least one LGBT character.

2. The character should be respectfully and positively portrayed. No using the character as the punchline of a joke, for example.

3. The game should be reasonable sound. In other words, there shouldn't be any gamebreaking bugs, and the game's balance must be sane.

Jesus Christ... :facepalm :rolling eyes
I'm afraid that in the Forgotten Realms they just use a Girdle of Femininity and Masculinity and get it over with.
To the best of my knowledge, there are none. The heyday of FRUA was the 1990s, when attitudes were beginning to change, but had not yet. I suggest you post on the FRUA boards and see if one exists.

If not...here's your chance. Make one. One dungeon. Rescue your partner from the evil wizard. The primitive graphics of FRUA actually work to your advantage here, because you'll be communicating all the romance through text and won't have to worry about converting graphics to FRUA's weird palette. This is your debut as a designer and honestly, I'd like to see some new blood in the community.

I also suggest you get in touch with Jaesun, who's gay and a moderator at RPG Codex and has actually made a small game; maybe you two can bounce ideas off each other. Good luck. I always like to see new designers come in.

Just don't complain too much about the rules as (a) they were fixed in the next edition, the Gold Box games just predate that and (b) in FRUA, there should be a hack that can fix them for you and (c) I really would hate to see FRUA get riven by political wars like the Hugo.

But on topic; "G.P.C.P.", "Fury", "As seen through the eyes of Jade" and other modules by Harri Polsa are all about lesbian characters, and happen to be possibly the best and most technically sound modules FRUA scene has produced (for entirely different reasons, ofc).

There are two series by Harri Polsa with pre-defined lesbian main characters, although whether they're respectfully and positively portrayed is up to you to decide. From what I remember they're badass, but also a bit cheesy (somewhat cruel female killers? one is a drow), and the designs contain explicit cursing and kinky sexual(ized) content (possibly from a hetero male perspective, although admittedly I don't know who Harri is in RL).

Jade & friends (Fantasy)

- As Seen Through The Eyes of Jade (1997, astteoja.zip): You are Jade, a mercenary with an attitude. Guide her and her (less-than) loyal companions through three different adventures, first tracking a vampire, then stopping an insane plot of the church, and finally, learning of the land and herself.
- When Solitude Remains (1997, wsr.zip): The famous archmage Lyra Anjana must now fill her part of the bargain she made with the chaotic Vendyekar so many years ago. The quest takes her to another land, where a powerful triad of the gods reigns, and all who oppose are put to death. Will she use her full powers to please her old master or will she betray him, as she learns more? This is a sequel of sorts to my design, We of the Night, which is part 2 of ASTTEOJA.

Agent Millar Jade Vanderholle (Sci-Fi):

- The Florine Incident (1997, florinei.zip): As new recruits to the Secret Imperial Security Forces, you find yourself on your first assignment. Guerillas have taken an important imperial citizen as hostage, and it's your job to rescue her..
- GPCP (1998, , [url=http://frua.rosedragon.org/pc/modules/g/gpcp2.zip]gpcp2.zip): Millar Jade Vanderholle has been summoned back to active IR service. Her mission is to investigate a minor information leak, but as she finds more, the nature of the investigation changes. Who can be trusted? And what secret is so dark, that those who protect it, will stop at nothing to keep it in the dark?
- The Last Days of Autumn (1999, daysfull.zip): On one of her first IR missions, agent Vanderholle is needed to find a missing person.
- Fury (1999, , [url=http://frua.rosedragon.org/pc/modules/f/fury2.zip]fury2.zip): Millar Jade Vanderholle was visited by the IRISA agent who worked with her in the GPCP-case. She had some news about an incident which required some further investigation. Millar Jade goes undercover, to find out more about the secrets behind these projects..
- Method to Madness (2000, mtm.zip): Detective Witt from the RC2PD starts investigating a simple murder case, but turns out it is not at all that simple, since the IR involves itself in the investigation.

I'm not really sure if "The Florine Incident" already features Agent Millar Jade or other lesbian characters, it's just an assumption. "Method to Madness" is a noir design in the same setting that I think features a straight(?) male main character, but Agent Millar Jade makes an appearance. I think I've only played through "When Solitude Remains", "The Last Days of Autumn" and "Method to Madness", back in the days, and from what I remember they were a bit weird, but solid and entertaining. I can't vouch for the rest.

Off the top of my head, I don't remember any other LGBT content in UA designs, but if this is something you care about and you find the work of Harri Polsa not to your taste, you could be the first to positively portray LGBT characters in your very own UA design. ;)

EDIT: Gah, I missed ghaaroth's post. I should really learn to read before posting. Anyway ... now you've got links, too. ;)

Thanks guys. I totally forgot Harri Polsa's games, which are a great example of what you can do with hacks, LGBT or no LGBT. It's been too long!

Ghaaroth: you wouldn't by any chance be the fellow who submitted those awesome 'evil' walls to the Magic Mirror a few years back, would you?
What the hell? What in the hell would be the point? Play whatever character you feel compelled to and import character art if that isn't sufficient.
