For EoB 1 and 2 I was able to use the keymapper included in DOSBOX (Ctrl+F1) to rebind my movement keys to make WASD movement and QE my turn keys by remapping up,down, left, right, Home, and PgUp keys. (to get it to work you also have to map WASDQE back to the other buttons and delete the original functions from the new keys)

However, on trying the same layout in the games using the new engine I am unable to find a working "turn" key. Since this keyboard doesn't have a keypad I activated the soft keyboard and tried that to no avail. Forward, back, and strafing left and right had no problems, but I cannot find a key mapped to turn the party.

Has anyone found a way to keybind a turn button into the new engine Eye of the Beholder games?

If you have numerical part of keyboard with arrows, button 7 (Home) turns you to the left and button 9 (PgUp) turns you to the right.

For the first two games in the series you are correct, and I was able to do that without a problem, however with the new engine games I attempted to rebind using those keys to no avail.
I've tried using the keybinding software included in the program (CTRL+F1). I've tried directly editing the layout file, and I've tried using the soft keyboard, none of those seem to work for the newer engine (EoB3 and DH).

I'm having the same problem in EOB3. Dungeon Hack is working fine for me, though. The issue seems to be with the older version of DOSBox that comes with EOB3 (0.73). In fact, I just checked and replacing that one with the newest version fixes the controls BUT makes the sounds pop like there's no tomorrow. That's why the older version is used in the first place. Don't know if there's any perfect solution.
Well I spoke too soon. There seems to be couple of alternative solutions to this.

The simplest way to go about it is this:

1) Find a DOSBOX.exe that is the newest version. For example the one in your "\Eye of the Beholder II\DOSBOX" folder. Copy that file over the dosbox.exe in your "\Eye of the Beholder III\DOSBOX" folder.

2) Download the attached "dos32a.jpg" and rename it to DOS4GW.EXE. Copy it to your "\Eye of the Beholder III" folder overwriting the DOS4GW.EXE there.

That seems to eliminate the popping sound AND you get to rebind the turning keys! Worked wonders for me.

Couldn't quite get your .jpg thing to work, but transferring the new dosbox over worked wonders, thank you.

Happy to hear it worked for you! On my computer the newer DOSBox introduces lots of sound popping but it's otherwise fine. Using the file just gets rid of the sound pops but if you don't suffer from them in the first place it's not really necessary.
Hi, I'm sorry to dig up this ancient post, but I'm having the same issue. I'm on a laptop without a numpad, and i'm trying to rebind EOTB3 and Dungeon Hack keybinds. Replacing the DOSBOX.exe and downloading that DOS4GW.exe made no difference to me. EOTB seems to allow me to rebind just fine, but copying those files over didn't change anything. Anyone else have any ideas?
