Hey!

Man, I'm having time of my live playing this game from my childhood. I was a bit worried the nostalgy feelings are just making my memories great about it, but no, it's still as good as it ever was when I first played it :) Awesome.

Now to my question: I'm having a bit of worry on level 6. I need one more Dwarven key to unlock stairway down to level 7 but I'm afraid I've somehow managed to use all of them. I think I got everything from levels 4 and 5, I'm not sure did I get the one from the "silveware rack"+"dart rack" illusion wall maze, I got impression it vanishes if you dont take it :( I did take the two which are gained from dropping down to the pits from level 6. But that's it, now I can't get third from anywhere. I used my third key to unlock the room on level 5 which gave me Flame Arrow spell. Damn I wish I didn't do that.

I can move around the levels using the stone portals but I'm not sure can I access all the places on level 7 just by using those. At this moment I can't access any places on level 7 'cos the stone portal room on there requires a key too which I don't have. Can I finish the game still without the Dwarven key or am i doomed?

I have SUCH a good party by now I don't wanna lose it!

Hi there,

I agree, have been re-playing the series myself after good childhood memories (for almost a year when a kid didn't know the right mouse button was broken and played -throw everything in every inventory at each enemy) , and just making my way through the second one.
It is extremely frustrating that the first one of the series doesn't have multiple save slots, the three keys are required to get to the way through level 7 which eventually leads to the area that gives you the key to the correct place in level 7 (the portal room key area leads to stairs etc to level 8, so it is significantly further). If there are no other dwarven keys still to be picked up on those levels (I am pretty sure the clue books point out key locations if you want to check each spot on each of the dwarven levels to be certain) then there is going to be issue, and assuming you have nowhere useful to be accessed with portals, that may be the end of your adventure, locked and hunted in an area with endless kenku hordes. Good luck.
Thanks man, I went through the game without accessing the level 7 from stairway of level 6. I just had to skip most of the level 7 that way 'cos it forced me to advance in game through portals to level 8 and while I got to go up to level 7 few times, you really need those 3 keys if you want to explore the whole level 7. So it sucks a bit, gotta remember this next time. There's absolutely no extra dwarven keys on levels 4-6 if you use too many or fail to pick up those which disappear if you don't (the Silveware/Dart rack illusion wall area). Got to the end anyways and now playing EOB II, Azure Tower lvl 1 :)

I used to clue book a bit too much while playing the first one, the complete maps and item locations provide WAY too much information and the game becomes a bit of a run-through. I noticed I carried this practice to EOB II and now I have to put the clue book aside and use it only if I get really stuck :) On the positive note, I would've never got through the mouth-puzzle or the some other ones in EOB II without it :D

Great games! Definitely the golden era of computer gaming for me.
