I'm really having a difficult time figuring out how to best move my party in this game. I've got my right hand on the mouse and my left hand is on the arrow keys. I can't seem to figure out the best way to change my parties facing. If I hit the left arrow key, my party just moves left but doesn't change it's facing. Now I'm guessing there's a logical explanation or tip out there that I'm just too oblivious to recognize. So any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks for humoring what I'm sure is a rather stupid question.

With your right hand on the mouse, move the cursor to the left of the screen to the arrow markers, and select your *facing direction* by either left-clicking the left-curved arrow (faces left) or the right-curved arrow (faces right.) Use left hand on keyboard arrow keys to go forwards, backwards, left or right *strafe* (move to the left or right without changing your facing direction.)
Instead of the arrow keys use the num pad with your left hand. 4 and 6 are side steps, 7 turns left and 9 turns right.

Okay I'm trying the mouse and num pad. It works but it's definitely an uncomfortable position for me. I tried clicking on the arrows as well to move but then I can't click on my attacks during combat fast enough. Very awkward overall.
How about switching hands? Use the left hand on the mouse and the right hand on the numeric keypad.

Alternatively, DOSBox has a keyboard mapper which can be configured. See if remapping certain keys might help.

Move the keyboard more to the left.

Yea I can't move the keyboard further to the left because of space. I would love to move the movement keys to the standard AWSD. I'm not super savvy with DoxBox. Can you point me to a good tutorial or tell me how to go about doing that? Thanks.

EDIT: Okay I found some documentation in my eye of the beholder folder on how to remap keys. So I opened up Dosbox and tried it but it still doesn't work in game. I assume I'm doing it correctly but I can't be totally sure. I hit ctrl-F1 and bound AWSD to my number pad keys. Also looks like A and Q got messed up some how. Is there an easy way to reset the key mapper?

Old topic, but I'll say what I know in case OP is still looking for answers.
As far as defaulting the keymapper, I think thats a matter of finding the keymapping file and deleting it? Check the dosbox website before you do that. (Still, i'm like 90% sure that dosbox will just genrate a new mapping file with default values when its run).

As for the remapping itself, I found it somewhat counter intuitive. (Or at least different from other emulators I've used.
Once the remapper is active in your dosbox window you clickd on the key you wnat to physically press. Lets say "A".
So you click on a, and it tells you on the bottom

Event: key_a
BIND: Key [a]

Click on Add, and it will ask you to press the button you with to bind to A. In my case it was number pad 7 for WASD controls.
Now if you click next it should scroll through BIND: key [7] and key [a].
Now click on next untill you see it say BIND: key [a] again, and click delete. Now it shoudl only display BIND: Key [7].

Repeat as necessary for the rest of your keys.
Make you you click save when you are done, else you'll need to do this every time you play.

I also advise you to go ahead and remap the keypad to the letters you used for movement. I.E. since I made key "a" actually send button press keypad 7 to the game, I made keypad 7 send A to the game. This only really matters when characters (as far as I've noticed anyway), so its pretty optional.

For refference, they way i mapped it was
Q: 4
W: 8
E: 6
A: 7
S: 5
D: 9

That makes WASD be forward/back and turning, and Q and E for strafing.
(Deleted; I was mistaken.)

I just want to highlight this post. I tried to change my keymap for Eye of the Beholder 1-3, but it WOULD NOT work until I changed my numpad bindings also. So I ended up with:

Q=7 W=8 E=9 A=4 S=2 D=6
AND
7=Q 8=W 9=E 4=A 2=S 6=D

Nothing else worked. But this solved the issue for me.
This is a bit backward actually you click the numpad first then click add then click one of the WASDQE keys to remap.

I addressed this in another post: In short: download my AutoHotKey script that rebinds movement to WASD, Q and E.
