According to reviews the GOG version requires Gog Galaxy to install and run properly. Is this still the case?
I am also interested in learning the answer to this question, especially sense the game is on sale.
I've been playing this game on the Twitch launcher and I can also confirm the game has some kind of DRM there. I cannot get it to play without it's launcher running. Definitely NOT free of DRM. I don't think this is GOG's doing but this game shouldn't be sold on GOG.

Yes, I don't understand. Does GOG not require games to be DRM free? The game was announced as being DRM free by GOG, so I guess they probably don't know.

Very underhanded of the dev if true.
The devs prefer to remove the game from the store, than the DRM from the game...
Asked a friend that owns it to try it without Galaxy and he said it ran fine. Said you only need to be online for co-op. He's still using Windows 7, though. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Maybe he didn't see that the unlocked were lost, not saved.
For a month I had no longer Galaxy, and ForTheKing is the only game which had lost my progression.
And when Galaxy came back, my game unlocks too...

Did you tell the game to use only cloud saves? Is that even possible?
