Installed the game in a folder outside Program Files?

Updated the video / audio drivers?

Updated DirectX?
(x) All of the above, plus so much more

Thanks for all your kind advice, but neither your tips, nor the ones I got from support have changed anything at all. Game still instacrashing without doing anything or even bothering to show up in the task manager.

Install OpenAL, and select it to be the audio output via the game's config window.

Good idea, but OpenAL is already installed, and I don't even get to the game's config window. It just never shows up, game crashes before that. Thanks anyway.

Go to the game's installation directory. Delete the "preferences" and "save" folders, if they exist. Make sure that the "data" folder is the only folder in there. Then the config window should be displayed.
