My old gaming laptop runs the game at 300 fps and 99% GPU utilization, and the temperature gets out of control after just a few minutes of plying the game. I would love to be able lock the game at 60 fps and not have my PC catch on fire, but it seems that there are no options to enable vsync in the game and forcing it through the driver does nothing!

Whenever I search the web for ways to limit framerates in F.E.A.R, all people gets told is to just enable vsync and their problems will go away, but I can't. How do I go about it?

Thanks.
Whenever my GPU driver's frame rate limiter doesn't work RivaTuner Statistics Server does the trick.

There's the Vsync option in the Display menu.

I have the opposite problem where the game is stuck at 60.
So, I figured it out:

Reading https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/F.E.A.R. I was brought to https://www.gogdb.org/product/1423058413/releasenotes .

Thereafter I went to https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/F.E.A.R.#Screen_shaking.2C_broken_physics where I was redirected to https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Glossary:Frame_rate_(FPS)#Frame_rate_capping .

The part saying " ThirteenAG's D3D8 and D3D9 wrappers [Cap], modify the FPSLimit variable in the INI file. " is the part of interest.

You have to go to the dxwrapper.ini file and edit " LimitPerFrameFPS = " to the new cap you want.
1000 is basically infinite since this game relies A LOT on the first core. The 6th one was basically never used!
