Hi there!

I am on a Windwos 11 machine and I have trouble playing "Fates of Ort". After starting the game a window pops up and immediately closes itself again.

Could you please try to fix this?!

All the best!

The same issue is happening to me as well.
I launch the game, it begins to run, then it closes.
Apologies for the delay in responding.

Can you please try navigating to:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAMEHERE\AppData\Roaming\fates_of_ort

In that folder, please delete fates_of_ort_settings and try launching again.

If that does not work, please navigate to:
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAMEHERE\AppData\Roaming\fatesofort_error_logs

Find the most recent error log and post the contents (if it's a bunch of repeated errors I only need to see the first).

I know we discussed this before but I just want to let you know I took the steps again.
It still didn't work, it just opens a window for a brief few seconds and then closes the game.
No error logs were generated at all.
I was able to figure out what the issue was and how to fix the issue.
There was certainly something corrupted on the save files.
Those files kept syncing with GoG cloud/ Steam Cloud.
So I turned off cloud sync and then uninstalled the game.
I think deleted every file that was left.
I went into the This PC/Windows (C:)/Users/username/AppData/Roaming file and deleted those files as well.
With cloud sync off I reinstalled the game.
Loaded it up and it started just fine.
Then I started a new game and while in the game went to settings and turned back on cloud saves.
After the game saved I closed out of the game and it resynched with the cloud.
Now it starts up just fine.
So what ever was corrupted was left on the cloud saves and kept causing issues.
It works now.
I do not know what caused the files to become corrupted.
I asked Chat GPT to make a step by step guide.... Here it is.

How to Fix Fates of Ort Crashing on Launch (Caused by Corrupted Cloud Saves)

If Fates of Ort opens a window and then immediately closes without launching — even after reinstalling on different computers or launchers (GOG Galaxy or Steam) — the issue is likely a corrupted save file synced from the cloud.

Here's a step-by-step guide to fix it:

Step 1: Turn Off Cloud Saves
- Open GOG Galaxy.
- Click the Settings icon (gear symbol) in the top-left.
- Go to Settings > Game Features.
- Uncheck the box labeled "Cloud Saves."
(This prevents the cloud from automatically restoring the corrupted saves.)

Step 2: Delete the Local Save Files
- Open File Explorer.
- Navigate to one of these folders:
- C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Local\FatesOfOrt\
- C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Roaming\FatesOfOrt\
- Or C:\Users\[YourUsername]\Documents\My Games\FatesOfOrt\
(If you don't see the AppData folder, enable "Show hidden files" in the View settings.)
- Move the FatesOfOrt save folder to your Desktop or another backup location.

Step 3: Launch the Game
- Launch Fates of Ort through GOG Galaxy or Steam.
- The game should now open normally.
- Start a new game to generate fresh, clean save data.

Step 4: Re-Enable Cloud Saves (Optional)
- Go back to GOG Galaxy > Settings > Game Features.
- Re-enable "Cloud Saves."
- The new, clean save data will sync to the cloud and replace the corrupted version.

Problem Solved!
You can now enjoy Fates of Ort without it crashing on launch.
Tip: It's a good idea to manually back up your save files occasionally, just in case a save ever becomes corrupted again.
