Unfortunately, it appears the bug has not been fixed, as I just encountered it. Took on the mission to rescue the Dogon Sediko buddy, but when I get there I cannot open the door, there is no hand icon. I did not know about the bug beforehand, and was not keeping backup saves, so now the only choice I have is to start over from the very beginning.
[edit]: If this is the mission I am thinking of, that building has two doors ('front' and 'back'). Try both doors?

I'm playing my 4th playthrough in a row right now; and although in game 4 I still have a lot left to do in Bowa-Seko, I have already rescued all buddies. I didn't have any problem rescuing any of them in any other playthrough either.

Never heard of this bug - and haven't experienced it either in any playthrough.

BTW, you can rescue all your buddies without having to await any missions to do so - just go to the locations and get them out.

I'm playing the GOG Far Cry 2 Fortune's Edition v2.0.0.8

Martek: snip
Its not the door of the building, its the door inside the building, the one to the room with the buddy. I can easily get to Sediko. get into the building, and climb the ladder. But the door on the second floor I cannot interact with.

Here is some further info on the bug.

If you want to give it a try and maybe see for yourself, attached to this post is my save file, inside the jpg. You will probably need 7zip to extract the save file from the jpg, at least that's what I use.

It happens on my install as well, with that save. (btw winzip opened it just fine)

Tried I'm sure some of the usual things - snuck in with no kills; re-enter bldg several times; scooch around my position relativ to the door, reload from a save right in front of the door, etc. No luck.

I guess I was just lucky 4 games in a row (thankfully!).

Now, on my most recent two playthroughs (one of which is still in progress), I think I rescued that buddy, well - all the buddies - without waiting for those missions. Not sure if that gives better odds of not hitting the bug - but it's there to try.

Ealier you mentioned you didn't keep backup saves. Does that mean you haven't saved the game manually except until the bug? (ironman mode?) Or you've deleted the saves that accumulate in the save folder (because quick saves accumulate and dont overwrite [at least on my GOG version] -but you already know that since you went to the folder to jpg that save)?

Otherwise, if there are other earlier saves available in the save folder it would be interesting if you had one from first entering Bowa-Seko, and then almost going straight there to try the rescue. See if the bug was already present at that time.

I have a save just before going to Bowa-Seko so maybe I'll try that later.

Okay, thanks for giving it a try and confirming the bug happens to you as well. And yeah, I tried all of those things myself, even went back to Leboa-Sako, and then re-enter Bowa Seko, thinking that maybe forcing it to reload that area would fix it, but no such luck.

About the saves, no ironman here, I just deleted all the excess saves that had accumulated every time I finished playing, keeping only the most recent three or four saves. Unfortunately, all of those kept saves were after accepting the mission, and thus, all had the door bug.

I have since restarted and am playing through the game again, this time I'm making sure to keep some backup saves, and also will try rescuing the buddy as soon as arriving in Bowa Seko rather than waiting for the mission to do so. Hopefully I won't encounter the bug again.
Keep in mind you can also rescue your Leboa-Sako buddies without waiting for the missions. I can post the locations if you aren't sure of them.

Thanks for the offer, but that won't be neccessary. I have already rescued most of the buddies, the only one I have yet to get is the plane crash buddy, but I know the location, just haven't went there yet. Thanks, though.
Hey, it's me the Farcry thread necromancer again!

Just posting to inform anyone that might be interested that the I rescued the buddy located at Sedigo with no problem. Door at 2nd floor worked fine. However, I wasn't on any mission to save him, just wandering and killing stuff. I am on 69% main story complete, on the GOG version of 2.0.0.8, farcry2 version 1.03

Indeed, that worked for me as well, as noted in my posts above.

Maybe that's the trick to avoiding the bug - rescue them without awaiting each one's rescue mission.

Or maybe we just got lucky (afterall the bug doesn't seem to hit everyone that gets the mission either). :)
